Adding Text Boxes in Main Menu

Post by blplhp »

In the DVD Authoring module of VS10+, how do you add a text box to the Main Menu template? I have chosen all three styles - Smart Menu, Text Menu and Thumbnail Menu, and I cannot get the program to allow me to add additional text boxes.

For example, I have one video file loaded in the timeline with 4 chapter points selected. With the Main Menu selected, any of the styles gives me a text box for the title of the DVD movie (default name is "My Title") and a text box with the file name of the video file, which I typically change to read "Scene Selection", as a prompt to choose the chapter menu. But I want to add a text box entitled "Play Movie" and move it next to the "Play" button provided on the menu, but I don't see how I can do this on any of the menu styles provided. Right clicking in the main menu does not provide any answers. I don't see anything on the Edit tab for doing this. Am I missing something here? Can this be done, and if so, how?

Thanks.

Hi Bryan

For each video added you get one thumbnail / link.

If you have only the one video file in the burner timeline you will get one thumbnail in the main menu.

Assuming that you have created chapter points, selecting the main menu will open the sub menu.

To play your video you have now to select one of the chapter points.

That seems a bit long and drawn out.

You can disable/hide the main menu.

This will leave the submenu only. (its all you need anyway)

From the Edit Tab select Advanced Settings.
Deselect the option ‘Add Title Menu’

When you play the dvd it will start in the sub menu.

Afaik this only works when using one video.

Does that Help

Yes it helped, although I pretty much already knew all that, but it was good to get confirmation. So, the answer to my question is that you can never add any additional text boxes or "Hot Spots" to a menu page. You only get as many hot spots as there are video files in the burn timeline. It would sure be nice if the program would allow you to add hot spots, at least one, if nothing else. For those that would still like to have a main menu, I guess the only workaround to this would be to use the text box provided for the one video file that I would edit to say "Scene Selection" and then hit the enter key a few times to create a large vertical spacing or gap and then type in the words "Play Movie" and then move the Play navigation button over to the side of this text. Of course, I understand that the "Play Movie" text is not an independent hot spot, so clicking on that phrase would not initiate the playing of the movie, you would still have to click on the "Play" navigation button. But at least it would provide the instructional text for clicking on the button and not leave the "Scene Selection" text sitting there all alone.

Example:

"Scene Selection"
<enter>
<enter>
<enter>
<enter>
"Play Movie" |=>| This symbol representing the "Play" button

Thanks again, Trevor.

:) :)

I see you have PI11. Why not trying to make your own menu, as per Steve's tutorial here.

Yeh, just received it this week. Installed it but have not had a chance to use it yet. I will play around with it this weekend. Thanks.
