I'm having problems creating an .avi file of some footage that I shot recently. Mediastudio seems determined to split my one 38 minute project into two avi files instead of the one file.
There is no problem with the footage, only that when I select 'create / video' and save as an avi' in Mediastudio 8, it will only save the project as two seperate avi files. I name the file 'Yoga' and when MS has finished creating, there are always two avi files saved in the folder; 'Yoga' and 'Yoga-1' ... which it seems to create on it's own. The second file carries on from where the first left off. Since this is to be burned to DVD, I need one continuous avi file.
I have checked the timeline, there are no markers, edits, cues and so on at the point at which it starts the second file - which is 19 minutes and 49 seconds. I have also checked that the entire project option is selected. (But I have also tried using 'preview range' with the entire project in the preview range).
As a relative noob .. I assume there is no way to render then burn a disc directly from the project? This would save me creating the file in the first place. Of course I would like to know why MS is doing this though for future refererence.
Problem creating a single AVI file.
The file is "breaking" at the 4GB mark (I'm assuming you're creating a DV AVI from within video editor).
I can see how you'd break up a captured DV AVI, but not how you'd break one up after editing (no options on the menu).
You need to fill in your system specs, so we can see if it's possibly a codec issue, although they pretty much died out with Win98

You need to tell us a lot more. What is your OS and file system? I suggest you may have a FAT 32 file system, in which case you need to convert your video partition to NTFS (assuming you are using WinXP or W2k). Which version of MSP are you running?
I admit, I hadn't realised, if the above hypothesis is so, that it split the file in 4 Gb segments but I haven't had a FAT32 file on any of my systems for 5 or 6 years.

Well whatever video format TJ was outputting, it wasn't DV or DVD, if the problem is a 2GB limit.
For DV, 2GB is 10mins (approx) while 19min 49sec in 2GB is roughly a bitrate of 13mbps - too high for DVD.
It's possible these are normal 1GB splits at relatively normal DVD bitrates, but TJ said (s)he was producing AVIs. Who knows? we'll need TJ to offer more info before we can progress...
