Adjusting the "Title Safe Area" when Editing
When editing in the Video Editor of VS10+, can you adjust the frame size of the "title safe area"? I know it can be adjusted in the burn module, but how about in the editing module? I didn't see anything regarding this adjustment in the Project Properties or Preferences dialog boxes.

Cheers,

Click on the Title tab. Double click in the Preview Window to make the title controls active. Now click on the cogwheel (next to Show Grid Lines checkbox) to open the Grid Line Options box to adjust the grid size.

Thanks Jeff, but I already tried that and all that does is adjust the size of the grid itself, not the "title safe area" outline box (which is grey in color on my preview window). I need to adjust the title safe area outline box. I know in the burn module, it is currently set to 90%. I need to make it 91% or 92%. I will change it in the burn module to get the actual result burned in the DVD, but I need for the editing preview window to show the adjusted title safe area outline box so I can proporly size and position my titles and overlays.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hmmm, I see what you mean. Kind of dumb that the only way you can adjust the title safe area is right before you burn, after you've already created your titles.

Jeff,
Exactly!! You have to make a potential "coaster" to see if your titles or multiple overlays are filling the entire TV screen. In a project I just finished, I had four overlays on one screen, each a 1/4 of the size of the screen, and I had a blue border around all four overlays (the blue border was my color clip on the video track). So, now I have to go back into my project file and increase the size of each of the four overlay images manually, because you can't adju
st the title safe area in the edit mode. A real pain in the neck.
I guess another suggested fix for Ulead in their upcoming patch for VS10+. I will notify them thru their tech support form.
Thanks.

I wonder if you change the setting size of the title safe area in the burn module, if it will adjust the outline box that shows in the editing module? I'm not at home right now to try this, but I will try tonight. Has anyone tried this approach?

Well, adjusting the title safe area setting in the burn module does NOT adjust the title safe area outline box in the editor module.
Oh well, I guess I will suggest a fix to Ulead to include an adjustment of this feature in the editor module in their upcoming patch for VS10+.

After adjusting the title safe area setting in the Settings and Options icon(under the advanced tab) before burning my latest DVD project, I closed the DVD project file and then went back into it, and then I checked the title safe area setting box and it reverted back to the deafault setting of 10%. I had changed it to 9% for this particular DVD burn. Therefore, when you adjust this setting before burning a disc, the setting adjustment is only good for that particular session of having the burn module open. Once you close the burn module and re-enter it, the title safe area adjustment you just made is automatically changed again to the VS10+ default setting of 10%. No wonder the title safe area outline box in the editor module did not change in size.
Interesting!?

Interesting!?

Hi Bryan
Even more Intriguing
VS 10 +
Out of curiosity I carried out the procedure you described above.
I changed the safe area to 30.
Closed the window, saved the project.
Closed VS and restarted.
Opened the project and Share-Create Disc
The safe area showed as 30
Just rechecked and I do not have to save the project.
The safe area defaults to the last setting used.
The setting remains even after restarting VS.

Trevor,
That is interesting. The only difference between what you did and what I did was burn the project to a DVD disc. What happens when you burn your project to DVD disc, then close the file, get out of VS10+ and then re-enter VS10+|Share|Create Disc, and load your project file. Does the 30% setting remain?
Let me know, thanks.

Ok Bryan
This is what I did.
Started a new project.
Changed the settings to match the video Mpeg
Share Create Disc
Add Video File
Settings and Options-Preferences-Advanced-changed the Safe Area to 30 (default was 10)
Next
Safe area shows as small box.
Selected Thumbnails as a menu template.
Next
Created DVD folders.(TS folder to my hard drive.)
When complete closed burner module-VS indicates saving project
File Save As ‘Burn’
Closed Video Studio.
Restart Video Studio
File open project ‘Burn’
Share Create Disc
Safe Area still indicates 30
Now here is the extra bit.
Closed down, rebooted the PC
Start VS
Safe area now indicating 10.
Re-booting my pc has changed the safe area back to its original default.
Strange.
Why should the same software act differently on different machines.
I know my PC set up will be different to yours, but within the world of video studio, surly the workings should be identical.
Sorry no explanation.
