Cannot reinstall Videostudio 9

Post by ronnie47 »

I search the forum for this problem and found that many of you have had this probem. Makes me wonder, what is wrong with Ulead softwares.

My VS 9 stopped working, so I tried to uninstall it but it did not work.

Error Code: -5004 : 0x3e6
Error Information:
>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (1925)
pAPP:Ulead VideoStudio 10
PVENDOR:Ulead Systems
PGUID:E188D820-1218-4E28-8BCA-91134C3664C2
$7.1.100.1248

Tried the solution I found on the forum, cleaned the registry and the folders.

Tried to reinstall. Same error.

There is no problem to install other programs. What is wrong . Is there really no solution on this program. Search the Internet and found load of people who had this problem but no solutions.

Hi

What version of VS are you referring to. :?:

You mention VS 9 but 10 is shown in the fault info :?:

Are you sure you have completed a ‘Clean Install’ :?:

Uninstalling and then deleting all remaining folders, before re-installing.

You need to activate the ‘Show hidden files and folders’ from the Tools-Folder Options-View.

Try this link if you haven’t already read:-

I have a friend to tried to help me. He suggested we should try to install VS 10 as he owned a version. Just to see what happened. Same error. But I had VS 9 installed and that is the version I want to install.

Have I completed a "Clean Install"? Don't know what you mean. I had it installed but it stopped working. So I tried to uninstall it which failed.

I have done all the things mentioned in your link. Cannot find any trace of the program on my computer. Still the error.

And as I couldn't install my friends version, it probably means I cannot install any Ulead software anymore. If I need one.

Hi

When you say I had it installed but it stopped working.
What do you actually mean. :?:

It does not start.
It opens but freezes.

What operating system are you using, Fill in your details in your profile.
If XP then you may be able to do a restore to an earlier time.
Have I completed a "Clean Install"? Don't know what you mean.
A ‘Clean Install’ referring to VS 9 is to uninstall the program, then remove all files relating to VS 9 from your pc.

Some files are hidden within the operating system.
You need to activate the ‘Show hidden files and folders’ from the Tools-Folder Options-View to be able to find all files.

Then do a search for Ulead, Video studio, vstudio.

Smartsound are also a part of the installation.

If you have several ulead products installed it may be best to uninstall all. Starting a fresh.

Try this link re clean install from the ulead site

The last resort is often the best. Wipe the lot, format the hard disk and start with a fresh installation of Windows and all.

Recently I had a lot of funny things happeneing on one of my sytems as well, turned out to be one of the registry fixing programs I used. Do you use one of them?

Hi!

When I had it install it got to the place where you choose program, but when I chosed studio it did not open.

I am using windows XP but got no restore points.

I show hidden files and I can't find anyting in the search of the words you suggested.

The links you are given me don't work. Got the message: The knowledge bas not set up correctly. Even if I cut and paste it into the browser.

I am ready to give up. Of course I can format the harddrive and reinstall everything, but that will take two days to reinstall all the software I got. Better find another video program, cause I don't want this to happen again.

But I am thankful for help, and if you know how to get to thoose links I would be most grateful.

Hi

I have edited the earlier post.

The link is from Ulead.com--Support--knowledge base
Follow the link Video studio--VS 9
Scroll down for installation 1/2

Don’t know why the other link was broken????

Don’t give up, unfortunatley the problem is most likely your software and not VS (but you didn't want to hear that, sorry)

OK. I tried the link. Did what it told me to. But the same error.

You mean there is a fault in windows? What could that be?

Cause there is nothing wrong with the VS. I tried to install it on another machine and it worked.

Hi

Is your PC running with all the latest updates. :?:

Have you done a virus scan.
Have you downloaded or installed any other software that may be conflicting.
Have you sufficient memory
When last did you defrag the drives. :?:

The list is endless.

Heinz Oz posted The last resort is often the best. Wipe the lot, format the hard disk and start with a fresh installation of Windows and all.

It may be the quickest in the long run. It would certainly clean up your pc.

At least you have proved the installation disc is ok.

Hi!

Yes, I got all the updates, done virus scan. If there is another program in conflict, I don't know. I've installed a lot.

And you are right, I can't go on like this. I will start all over again with a formatted harddisk. And I am sure it will work after that.

Trevor, thanks a lot for taking your time to help me.
