Green Screen tutorial

Post by devo_111111 »

So to clean up my composite a bit I worked through the tutorial by Nick.

Everything works up to the point that I use the video matte with the green clamp filter. My subject comes out purple. Why? Because there is no green of course. But that doesn't seem to happen in his tutorial.

Any thoughts on why?

I'm using MSP 8. The filters seem to show up and work fine.

Ah! So a difference between MSP 7 & 8 is that the Va & Vb tracks mixed together to create an all three colour image but in 8 which ever track is on top is the final image.

Anyway to create the effect Nick has in his tutorial?

Showing up and working fine are two different things, and things turning purple should not be part of the latter if you've followed Nick J's instructions.

AFAIK those filters are only tested on MSP 6&7, so.....

What prompted you to use them instead of the built in keyer, other than curiosity?

I was just looking for ways to try and improve the resulting image. I found that tutorial awhile back and just thought I would give it a try. So MSP 8 doesn't require this, the tutorial was a bit of a work around was it?

The green screen is OK but I do have some of the blockyness associated with the chroma compression in DV or HDV. I think that is the source isn't it.

Anyway the dropshadow thing works great. Thanks Terry!

Each individual filter seems to do what it was supposed to do. Track one is all green and track two has none. But the total image in the preview window is just the top track, two, not a composite of both tracks. That's why I thought there was a difference between 7 & 8. I've never worked in 7.

Did you set the Overlay mode of the top track to "add" and adjust blend to 100%?
