pan and zoom small question

Post by surfer »

I know: it is coming by a numberous time on this forum but i can't find it:

I want to use pan and zoom (thru the options panel because there is no pan and zoom filter in de library), and choose customize. I have read the tutorial from Steve J "from camcorder to dvd" but Steve is mentioning the pan and zoom from the library.

I would like to know where are the markers for the keyframes?

I am starting with: first the photo must start at 100%. a few seconds later to the left person on the photo and zoom in on the face. A few seconds later go to the person right standing to him, then the other person next to that person. So 5 persons with a littele pause in between. At the end goiing back to 100%.
But where are the keyframe markers so i can go to the second stage?

I am not sure what you mean by the 'Options Panel', and I am surprised you cannot get the pan and zoom filter to appear in the Library window. In the little drop down menu box to the right of the top right corner of the preview screen (below 'Overlay' and 'Title'), do you not get 'Video Filter' listed in the dropdown menu choices? And if you select that, don't all the Filters then appear in the Library pane? And isn't the pan and zoom filter there? In the English version I have, it is the very last filter, labelled Zoom Motion...

Surfer,

What version are you using? In VS10 +, drop your image into the timeline, then you should see 2 panels (if using the default layout), on the right. One says Image, the second Attribute. On the Image tab, the Pan & Zoom is located below the Keep Aspect Ratio... drop-down menu. Now you should also see a drop-down menu when you select Pan & Zoom, where you can select from several presets. Then beside that is Customize. Clicking on it opens a dialogue box with 2 preview panes, and a timeline where you can add keyframes.

If you are using VS9, then you don't have the ability to add keyframes. VS9 uses Start, Middle, End.

pan and zoom

Post by surfer »

Thanks,

Ken,
"labelled Zoom Motion" yes this filter is present. I am sorry, i was looking for pan and zoom.

Videoman,
"Then beside that is Customize. Clicking on it opens a dialogue box with 2 preview panes, and a timeline where you can add keyframes"
Indeed, i have done that but i can't find in the customize, the markers to mark a keyframe. Wich one is the marking of a keyframe?

But when i try the pan and zoom from the library i can follow the documentation of Steve so i found it, although i am curious where the keymarkers are.

Once you've opened the Customize window, you should see the following:
NOTE: The Top image is for VS 10 + The bottom image is VS9

ImageImage

The keyframes are added by clicking on the + button (left-most button above timeline). When you add a keyframe, a crosshair will be added to the left preview pane. You can drag the crosshair to position the anchor point for that keyframe. You can use the Zoom Ratio slider, or drag the corners of the box in the preview pane to adjust the zoom. There are other options, like the No Panning which prevents the image from moving, and will just zoom in and out. You can also use this to do a fade in/out while panning and zooming. For a cross-fade effect, set the transparency to 100% on the 1st Keyframe (left-most). Then move the timeline to the right a short distance, add a keyframe, set the transparency to 0%. Go to a point just prior to the end of the timeline, add another keyframe. Set the transparency on this keyframe to match the previous one (0%). Now on the last keyframe set the transparency to 100%. Now you have a cross-fade along with your panning and zooming..

With VS9 you can not add keyframes.

And must i move the red cross or the white cross to make a keyframe?

Hi

Either hit the play button (far right)
Or drag the curser on the top timeline, its positioned in Videomans image above the red marker.

This should make the button to add key frame available.

The red cross on the preview screen indicates the frame position for a given key frame.
You can drag the red cross to position your frame.

Clicking another key frame will select another red cross.

keyframes

Post by surfer »

Thanks for your help all. I have been playing with the panning and zooming and it is not easy for me. Practice will help i think.

One thing i have been trying but did not succeed: i start with full screen for a photo the at point 5 sec a keyframe where zoomed in on a person. Then another keyframe at the and with the same zooming in as the middle keyframe zo there is no zooming out. This is the goal i have.

The problem is that whenever i make a keyframe and select the red cross to make a selection on the face of the person then the timeline jumps to the first keyframe, everytime so i can;t edit the middle keyframe. I followed the tutorial from Steve thus using the anchors, but still every time i make the middle keyframe red and want to select the red cross the keyframe is jumping red to the first one.

Is there a solution.

Hi

1 / Insert an image to the timeline –set the duration at 15 seconds.
2 / Select Pan & Zoom
3 / Select Customize
4 / Scroll the top timeline to 5 seconds.
5 / Press the ‘Add’ symbol ( A red triangle appears in the timeline at 5 secs.)
6 / Change the Zoon Ratio to about 300 (your choice)
7 / Move the red cross in the preview window over the first face.
( first use the anchor points, the nine coloured squares to separate the two crosses, click any but the centre one)
8 / Scroll the top timeline to 10 seconds.
9 / Press the ‘Add’ symbol ( A red triangle appears in the timeline at 10 secs.)
10 / Change the Zoon Ratio to about 300 (same as in 6 above)
11 / Move the red cross in the preview window over the last face.( remember the anchor points)
12 / Check the last position.

I think the difficulty is in selecting the red crosses when in the same position.
Use the 9 anchors to separate them.

Hope this Helps

pan and zoom

Post by surfer »

Yes Trevor, this is exactly what i mean. Your method works with the pan and zoom from the library effect pan and zoom but this doen, although by me, not work with the pan and zoom in the options panel. Wenever i select the second keyframe, or add in a keyframe and select the red cross, the other keyframe at the beginning is red so is active (also after choosing the anchor to the right for example).

Is this only by me?

Surfer,

It is a bit tricky when the anchor points are on top of each other. You may need to reposition one using the zoom to resize, or just dragging one of the corners in the preview pane, just so you can get at the red cross (anchor point) that you need to. Just play around with it and you will be able to get them where you want..
