Hi Alex, and welcome to the forums..:)

You did good by posting in the correct forum, and since you have been using Ulead VS since version 6, I hardly think you to be a newbie..:)

When you say you are saving, are you going to the Share>Create Video File step?

To provide more accurate advise we need to know just a little bit more information.

1. How did you capture, and what were the capture settings?

2. What are your Project Properties?

Please read the following :
  1. Read This First Sticky
  2. Recommended Procedures
Also please complete your system information in your profile. This will help us in troubleshooting your problems now, and in the future this information will already be available, so you will not have to re-type it.

thanks for the quick reply.

Well the video i am trying to save in (ideally) VCD
yes i am going through the usual "Share>Create Video File step"
it loads normally, but as soon as it get's to 99%, the prgramme freezes & i get the windows xp error message (with the options, send

my project is...
PAL (25 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

but.....i read through the tutorials.

I can save a mpeg video, when the video is already mpeg (i.e. saving the video using "same settings as project")
but i want to save an Mpeg2 video as a vcd (as i intend on hosting the video on the internet & VCD quality is what i am looking for)

(sorry to be a pain...this is the 1st time i've had any problems with a ulead product)

Alex,

I thought I might have had a solution, however I can't replicate your crash. There have been reports of Smart Render causing problems (again). So I grabbed an MPEG2 file, rendered it to VCD (MPEG1). First without S.R. then using the same video file rendered another to VCD using S.R. No crash, hang-ups, no problems. Are you using S.R. when you render your MPEG-2 to VCD? Might try changing it to see if it helps.

One other thing you might try is to clean out your Temp Folders. Then the last possiblity that comes to mind is that you may have a corrupt MPEG file to start with. Corrupt MPEGs are difficult to find. They may play alright, however when rendering they rear their ugly little mugs. Try an elimination process of 50/50 to see if you can find it.

Place your MPEG in the timeline, and cut it into 2 clips. Delete the second clip and render the first, to see if it will render. If so try the same process however deleting the first half. If this time it crashes, then with the half clip, repeat the process of cutting it in half. This may narrow down where the offending piece is located. Once you find it, you can delete it. Sometimes it is only 1 or 2 frames or secs that throws everything.

i've been clicking button etc etc.

I have noticed something (that may be just the thing that can sort it)

Where the video clip thumbnails are kept on the right side, if the file is an mpeg file, i am unable to "play" the file. though if i drag the file into the timeline, again i am unable to just "play the clip" though, i can watch it via the project preview (watching via the timeline)

by doing this, this is obviously a problem that could be causing this.

i have never had this problem with the previous editions, so its not that i "don't have codec"

but thanks for trying (i attempted the solutions and again, still have the same problem)

Try downloading and running Sherlock http://www.free-codecs.com/download/She ... ective.htm. It will show what codecs you have installed on your system, and if any of them may be broken.

Then try doing a Repair Install. With VS10+ you should have the repair option. Go to Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and choose Repair. Then if that doesn't fix it, you may have to do a complete and clean uninstall, re-installation. For instructions read the following:

http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 5773#55773.

Something with either a conflicting program on your system or VS install is messed up. You should not be having this sort of trouble with the program.
