Panasonic player reports DVD unsupported
I have Panasonic VCR/DVD unit that does not play DVD created with the latest Visual Studio 8 (with all the latest updates installed). The DVD plays on all my pcs and in a second DVD player I have, so it appears to be something with the DVD file structure that Visual Studio creates that the Panasonic unit rejects. I have done several experiments but have yet to discover a setting that works. I also have Nero and created a similar version of the DVD with Nero, and that one works fine. As best I can tell, Visual Studio creates the DVD with combined-titles files, while Nero creates files for each title. I don't know if this is it, or if there is some other setting that the Panasonic player rejects. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

DVD-R 8x disks
I am using DVD-R disks with 8x write capability. As I wrote, the same type of disk written with Nero work, but after 7-8 tries with different settings, I can't get Visual Studio 8 to create a disk that the Panasoniic unit can read.

based on my experience, not all DVD players will play all DVD formats. As an example, my sons older DVD player will not play DVD -R, so I have to make the DVD in DVD +R format, and then it plays. So, please read the manuel carefully, to see which format it will play or will not play.
I have experiemented with my new DVD player, and it does not play the
DVD +R format
If you have already tried DVD -R, then try DVD +R and see if that works

Panasonic manual says DVD-R, and Nero created one works
Thanks to all the helpful replies. This Panasonic plays DVD-R created with Nero software. However, in the same pc and with the same DVD-writer drive, a DVD-R created with Visual Studio does not play.
Thus the problem is not with the Panasonic, nor with the DVD-R, nor with the pc writer. The problem, INMHO has to be with the way Visual Studio creates the files in the DVD. I have tried many experiments with different settings and I have yet to discover if there is any setting in Visual Studio to make it work. I suppose worst case is to create my movie in Visual Studio and then use Nero to write the DVD, but this is not satisfactory.

I usually use Ulead's DVD Movie Factory to author DVDs. I have the option in DMF to create a DVD folder on my hard drive and burn to the disk as a separate step.
Does the DVD module in VideoStudio offer this option? If it does, try authoring to a folder on your hard drive, then burn to DVD with Nero. If this works, try installing the latest burning patch for Ulead and see if this helps.

Visual Studio written files burned with Nero works
Thanks for the last suggestion. I used Nero to burn the files created by Visual Studio 8 and it works. My guess is that the burning software of Visual Studio still needs some tweaks beyond what is on the latest update. Perhaps these guys should buy the burning software from Nero?

Glad it worked.
Here is a link to the latest CD/DVD burning engine updates which may help.
http://www.ulead.com/tech/general/burning_engine.htm
This is different from the update patches for VideoStudio.
Please make sure you follow the instructions in the Notes at the bottom of the page.
I always Do the authoring and burning as 2 separate steps anyway. Its not really going to speed anything else up by burning from folder to DVD with Ulead as opposed to Nero anyway.
If you're comfortable with this process and it works, why mess with success?

Thanks for the tips
Thanks for the explanation with the Quick Eject. UVS 8 gives a warning about this option and I had turned it off in most of my many experiments.
I am OK with creating the movie to a folder and then going to Nero to burn the DVD with those files. It seems like a shame though for such a good product to have troubles with the DVD burning step... Al

I have the same problem with my Panasonic DVD player. It is a DMR-E65 DVD Recorder. Any projects burned onto DVD-R with Video Studio 8 (with the 8.01 Patch) adamantly refuse to play when it plays fine in other DVD players. However if I use the same brand of disk with other software titles, they work fine.
I can put the blank DVD -R disks into the player/recorder and record TV programmes onto them without any problems.
I also noted that burning the same project with the same settings onto DVD -RW disks works fine in the Panasonic player.
I tried using the new burning drivers, but it has made no difference. I have ordered a different brand of DVD -R disks and a number of DVD +R disks to see if they work OK. I'll let you know if I have any success.

Hi,
When using DVD+R in a Panasonic unit you may have to change
the "BOOKTYPE" to DVD-ROM using "NERO". This option in Nero is
under the burner selection -> advanced (icon on bottom left). If the
option doesn't show up then your burner isn't capable of writing it
or you need a firmware upgrade.
The latest panasonic units are "Multiformat" and can play anything.
If it is a "Multiformat" player when recording programs in a desktop dvd
recorder(dvd-rw recorded in VR mode) one doesn't even need to finalize the disk to play it back in these new units.

Panasonic player reports DVD unsupported
I have two Panasonic DVD-RV32 DVD players, and both have trouble reading the DVD I created today. The LiteOn DVD drive on our PC plays its absolutely without flaw. Its picture is clear, and the sound is great. But the Panasonics freeze and stutter throughout playback. The manual for the Panasonic player says it can handle DVD-R, which is what I burned the video on using VS8's create disc feature.
I don't have another DVD player to try the finished product on. I'm curious to see if another brand has problems reading the DVD disc, too.
As far as Ulead VS8, it captured, and created the menus/sub-menus with ease. We've been happy with its results prior to this, with the first project we burned to DVD. (It was in AVI, that was converted to MPEG 2 for the burn. This latest one was captured in DVD format, and burned that way.)
Any way, it looks like there may be some kind of compatibility issues with Panasonics DVD players.
