Load MPEG vio Driver Error. Help!

Post by playswtihstars »

I'm trying to make a VCD of a movie I have on my computer using the free trial of Ulead's Videostudio 8.0 but I keep getting this error message whenever it tries to load Load MPEG vio Driver Error. Can somebody please help me with this problem and tell me how to fix it. Thanks

Do you have any non-Ulead products installed that can export MPEG, specifically an older version of Premiere, Vegas or ?? If so one of them may also be using the MainConcept MPEG plugin Ulead uses and they're interfering with its setups. If so, and maybe even if not so, this patch may help;

Terry, as a complete aside, I am in the opposite position to the one you described, I use Premiere 2.0 quite a lot these days, and had installed the Main Concept Pro mpeg plug-in for Premiere, but have never managed to get it to work. I always get an error message if I select it within Premiere... Not essential, I realise, as I can export my Premiere video in DV format, and use VS10+ (as I do) to convert that to DVD-compatible mpeg-2. (I confess I don't know how to handle Premiere's export of mpeg in two separate streams -- video using .m2v format and audio in ac-3...) :oops: But I have wondered also whether some other codec is conflicting with the Main Concept plug-in... :roll:

I was intrigued, though by your reference to VS using a Main Concept plug-in as well. Is that installed as part of the normal installation, as I have never seen a reference to it... OTOH, I have noted that some of my DV produced in Premiere shows in VS10+ as having been produced with the Main Concept DV Type 2 encoder; while others, also produced in Premiere and using the same properties (I think), seem to read in VS10 as being Microsoft AVI Open DML... Go figure. :cry:

Uleads MPEG.now = MainConcept MPEG since MSPro 6.51, about the same time Adobe put it into Premiere 6.5.

Adobe rarely fixes their messes until the next for-cost 'upgrade' :P

Well you learn something new every day. I had no idea that the Ulead mpeg codec was actually Main Concept's!

But yes, I *did* know Adobe uses Main Concept. But I perhaps didn't explain correctly the second bit of my comment. I am mystified as to why some, but not all, of the DV I produce in Premiere uses MainConcept's Type 2 DV encoder, and shows as such in VS10, when some other projects (all captured using Premiere and from the same DV cassette as the other set of projects), seem to open in VS but not show the MainConcept encoding but only 'Microsoft AVI Open DML'... But this is way off topic...

They may be using MC's DV codec for quality reasons (it handles colorspace changes better than M$'s codec) and only type2 is being properly identified.
