audio splitting

Post by lakewud »

Abiding by Heinz's advice, want to fill in all the questions relating to my motherboard etc...how do i find them?

My question, i dont think it requires any knowledge of the system/speed of my computer thou, is..

Splitting the audio track from one clip to stretching it over a montage of clips ive edited togther? Ive looked in the manual ( cant afford Charlies book just yet! ) but cant seem to find how.

Do i edit my voice clip..say..someone starting to speak then i want to edit from that person to what they're talking about but retaining there voice track in the first clip...if you see what i mean....ive made it sound more difficult than it is. Could do with with video in the good ole' s-vhs-c days...much more reliable it seems, all you needed was a vhs recorder and a 10pound video mixer!

Although VS is not an audio editor there are many things you can do with the audio.
1 / the audio for the whole project can be rendered to a Wav file, allowing you to use again. Share create sound file.
2 / you can Split Audio, Right click a clip in the timeline and select Split audio, this will place an audio file in the voice track and mute the main video.
3 / In the audio view 'Rubber banding allows you to alter the volume.
Hit F1 for help and read about audio in the contents.

To fill in your computer information click on the little blue word "Profile" at the top of the page - just under where it say "Ulead User To User Web Board then fill in the required boxes - it may help for future reference if you put at least an approximate location in the "Location" box - we don't need your full address but at least "UK" - - "USA" etc. would help.

If you can't find the word profile above then CLICK HERE

Not sure what you really mean with the audio track - but if you mean you want the original person speaking to carry on over some other video then the easiest way would be to put the 'cut-away' video in the overlay track and set it full screen so that it covers the top track - but you will still hear the sound from the top track.

Thank you both for your replies.

I will heed the advice, guessed the overlay track was the way to do it, just thought - seeing as i would already of cut the clip and placed it in the edited section of clips...it means then extending just the audio part ( of the clip i want to use audio from ) to stretch over the other edited clips - if you see what i mean...feels a little messy...but thanks again, just wanted to see if there was a better way.

I didnt explain myself properly in my first post, obviously im aware of the profile button, however wasnt sure where i can find the information regarding my motherboard and dvd capibilities etc..somewhere in MyComputer?

ah - right - not in 'MyComputer - but under "Control Panel" then select "System" under the 'general' tab you should at least be able to see things like 'CPU speed' - RAM etc. although you may not see details of your motherboard there.

And you will get more info if you go to Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager.
