Have encountered a problem and must close, PI8

Post by sean patrick »

I bought Photoipact 11 but reverted to my tried and trusted Photoimpact 8 which I found to be more to my liking. After four trouble free years I have been hit with the "Have encountered a problem and must close..." gremlin. My programme never stays open for more than a minute or two before being zapped. My brother-in-law who is a bar room computer expert has told me it's probably a 'system problem' but has offered no solutions... anybody out there who can help?

Usually when that happens it is time to uninstall and reinstall the software. Something is broken.

Uninstall PI8 and delete the leftover Ulead Folders.
Use the Control Panel Internet Options to clean out your Internet cookies, hisotries, and other Temp files on your hard drive.
If you don't need the old Windows updates and patch files you can delete them in the Windows Folder. i. e. $NtUninstallKBxxxxxx$
DO NOT DELETE the file named $hf_mig$!!!
Run Scandisk, the thourough version, should take an hour or more.
Defrag your hard drive at least twice or three times is better.
Reinstall PI8.

While you are at it, possibly prior to doing all the above suggested steps, check your memory also. It may have gone south and is the easiest and quickest to check. Once you elimated the memory (I had this happen once and it was the memory) do everything else suggested by keenart.

Even if your memory was at fault, defragging your disk drive is still a good thing.

We know nothing about your sytem and may be barking up the wrong tree also. Please follow the suggestions in this http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=16180 link.
