Your views on Ulead VideoStudio 10 Plus (looking to buy)
I am currently using Pinnacle Studio Plus v9 and find it incredibly unstable, slow and buggy. So am looking to move to a different product. I use video editing tools to download my miniDV tape footage of my children, edit with background music, menus & integrate with photos.
Would you recommend buying Ulead VideoStudio 10 Plus (or would VideoStudio be adequate).
Any opinion would be helpful.

I personally just downloaded VS10+ Trial version last weekend in order to create a DVD of my 3 MINIDVD's with footage of my daughter.
It was the only software so far who could handle to cut, edit and render my source VOB files properly...
As I only created 1 DVD so far (but did already changed and rendered this 1 DVD several times and it worked perfectly) I can not really judge but for my personal situation it fits the best
For miniDV I do not know whether it makes a difference
Just my opinion

Have you checked Ulead's Comparison Chart VS10 vs VS10 +.belcorp wrote:...

VS10+ vs Pnnacle Studio 10 and Adobe Premiere Elements 2
As far as which would be adequate for you, I don't know. Do you want just 1 overlay track, or 6 overlay tracks? Would you like to at some point add lower-thirds, picture-in-picture with more then just 2 pictures, video clips at time, and without having to do intermediate renders to do them? The other HDV, VOB support, Dolby Digital 5.1, video distortion are just added benefits that you may not use.
My opinion is with video editing VS10 + comes closer to most of the prosumer lines of NLEs, so I would opt for it. I was glad wien Ulead released a VS version that has more then 1 overlay track. It gives you much more flexibilty to create.

Hi Belcorp,
I am relatively new to video editing. I purchased VS10+, the only video software program I have ever owned, and it works superbly. I spent one solid month researching all the various NLE's out there, such as Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 (which includes their VideoWave and MyDVD8 programs), Nero 7 Ultra, Pinnacle Studios 10+, Adobe Premier Elements 2.0 and finally Ulead's VideoStudio 10 Plus. I looked at numerous on-line reviews and read through hundreds of user reviews of all the various programs mentioned above. I even contacted Jan Ozer with PC Magazine via email and got his opinion and advice. After all of that research and study, I made the decision to go with Ulead VS10+, and I have not been disappointed. It is a very intuitive software, very powerful in my opinion, if if I am still considerd to be a newbie. It is very stable. I spent my first few weeks with this software just reading the User Manual, reading Charlie Hills 300+ page book called "Getting Results with VideoStudio", and fielding numerous questions to this experienced and knowledgable forum group. The result has been flawless DVD movie productions, accelerated learning curve, fewer than expected errors made by myself, efficient use of my editing time and a pretty comprehensive understanding on how to use this program, even beyond what it can do at face value. Some of the limitations of this program can be overcome by learning some of the "workaround" techniques to acomplish what you want to have done.
I would definitely recommend this program shoulders above anything else out there, especially for the beginner/intermediate video editor. If you are more of an advanced user, then maybe VS10+'s big brother would suit you better - MediaStudio Pro 8.
Let us know what decision you make and how well the software performs for you.
Good luck.

There is a very good coparative chart on NLE on Wikipedia. Video Studio is in my opinion one of the best NLE in its price range even for editing high def video (thats what I use it for) . I used to work with Pinnacle Studio 8 , a real instable nightmare (nearly lost 4 weeks saved by add on corrective patches ). I dont know about Studio 10 , it seems that it has the same stability issues.
Many persons share this opinion if you make some search on internet. Coparatively I did'nt hear much criticisme about Ulead products in general.

Hi
Play five clips in one frame.
using only one track the project would have to be rendered between each video used.
VS 10 recommended
Trevor
Place a video or image clip in each overlay track, position the clips.what would you use the other 5 overlay tracks for. I am always looking for new ideas and also always looking to maximize my use of this wonderful software program.

I use multiple overlay track for doing lower thirds, images, videos and images in a pic-n-pic. For example a lower thirds, I may have a background that is used throughout the video, however the graphics for the lower third are different for certain segments. To do this without having to do intermediate renders, you need more then one overlay. Then add to that, doing a transitional wipe or bumpers. I've created some using 3D PS, and these need to go on yet another track. So with that I'm up to at least 3 overlay tracks, which that is not even getting into the complex edits.blplhp wrote:Hello Vidoman,

Terrible experiences with Tech support
WOW! I am rather disappointed in the experiences I had today with Ulead's support staff. I spoke with two agents and neither of them had any knowledge of how to help me. The first one hung up on me after I asked him for his name.
When I asked why he was unable to help me his tone changed. He became defensive and then combative after I kindly asked if I could speak with his supervisor, a team leader, or escalation delegate. Nice customer service isn't it? All I wanted was a solution to an issue after spending $$ to upgrade to VideoStudio 10 plus.
My brand new capture device (ADS DVD Express...that came with Ulead Videostudio 9) won't work with studio10. The tech support told me that studio10 doesn't work with USB capture devices. My studio9 does, why wouldn't the newer upgraded version work with a USB device? It doesn't make sense to me. To make things worse neither Ulead tech could guarantee me which PCI card would work.
All I wanted was guidance or a solution and instead I am out $$ and confused why no one is willing to help me. I would be hesitant to think that those two tech agents accurately represent the mission statement or goals of Ulead or Element 5.

As far as I am aware, ADS devices work with proprietart technology and thus only with software either specially designed for it or specially tweaked for it. I understand that they specially tweak the version of VS9 that is distributed with the device. That is why it will work with the device but VS10+, which you didn't get with the device, will not. But this is not a Ulead problem as such, but one created by ADS insistence on keeping their technology locked.
At one stage, I thought the ADS devices were distributed with proprietary capture software called CapWiz. Did that come on the CD with the device? We normally recommend that people capture with whatever software comes with the capture device, and then transfer it to VS for editing. If you can capture using VS9, then you can do the same thing -- once the capture is done, insert the files in VS10 and edit away!

And to add to that I’ve used all the overlay tracks because many times I use a couple of tracks or more just for effects (oil track overlays, etc).vidoman wrote:I use multiple overlay track for doing lower thirds, images, videos and images in a pic-n-pic. Poopsi,
Charlie Hills' book "Getting Results with VideoStudio 9" can be bought directly from his website or you can also purchase it from Amazon.com. See the links below. Since VideoStudio 10 Plus is still very similar to VideoStudio 9, this book is still very much applicable and will get you flying off the ground in no time. It did for me. He includes several follow-along projects, where you actually copy files from his CD to your harddrive, and then you follow his step-by-step instructions to learn a particular technique or video editing skill. Charlie Hills has stated that he does not plan to write a book on VS10+. Also, print out the two sticky posts at the top of this forum, along with Steve J's tutorial "From Camcorder to DVD with VideoStudio". All of these tutorials provided by the expert members of this forum reinforce and add to what Charlie Hills' book provides. Hope this helps.
