Please help. I am new to this and have searched the forum for an answer to my problem and can't find what i need.
I have completed my project and have managed to burn it to a dvd where I discovered that it has changed my widescreen footage to 4:3 I made sure that all the settings were set to 16:9 before I burned them and I didn't have any problems with my first project.
Upon investigation the capture settings have been set to dvd not dv and I didn't notice at the time. As the videostudio editor is a set of instructions to control the main files is it possible to keep the edited project with all the sound transistions etc and re-capture the footage so that it is displayed correctly - or will i have to start again?
Any advice gratefully recieved!

Thanks for your response.
I am using VS10+ and the project settings were/are set to 16:9 but as the capture from my widescreen dv camcorder was set incorrectly to dvd not dv it has meant that the image is not full screen and has vertical bars either side of the image.
Is there any way that I can rescue this project?

Hi Suzy
Assuming the footage on your camera was recorded in 16:9.
If you captured to DVD then you have to set the capture properties.
These most likely will have been set for 4:3 by default, even though the project properties were 16:9.
Your files will be captured as 4:3 and show in the preview screen with a black border.
The right and left borders being part of the 16:9 frame.
You can change the 4:3 to 16:9 but will loose some of the frame around the edges, some small quality loss can be expected.
I think you will be best to capture the footage again to DV format to get full quality and screen at 16:9
Read A look at widescreen from the link below.
Hope this helps

many thanks for the advice
I have already made good use of your site and have learned a lot from it (obviously I need to check the settings more carefully before I capture)
If I re-capture the footage will I need to edit it again or will the program just use the previous edit/transition/music that I had set up before?
regards
Suzy

Hi Suzy
I have just tried to replace a 4:3 dvd clip with a 16:9 avi and was successful.
I captured 20 seconds from the beginning of my Mini dv tape to dvd 4:3
Edited the project adding transitions and titles.
I then captured the same footage in DV-Avi 16 :9 disable split by scene.
I selected the old clip in the timeline then re-linked to the new Avi file.
File-Relink.
Had to repeat with each clip.
To my surprise it relinked.
the Avi has to be at least a few frames larger than the first capture.
If the capture started from the same frame then it may be accurate.
Interesting

Hi Trevor
Thanks for all your efforts to help me out. I tried to relink as you suggested but it wouldn't let me select the avi version of the clip. So I deleted the files that ended with mpg and put in the new avi files. I still had to edit the scenes and as you predicted and the transitions needed to be redone but the titles and music was ok (I remembered to 'unlock' them from the clips first). I think that this may be because the project had been rendered and burned as chapters as the codes for each scene matched the chapter numbers.
I am still editing the clips and haven't tried to burn the project yet and I hope that it will work.
I now know one of the key pitfalls!! Check the capture settings!
Thanks again for all your help!
