Have had some problems with DVD burner, computer manufacturer had me do a non-destructive restore and now everytime I open up VS8 and try to do anything I get a generic message it must shut down.
BTW~it now turned my saved video files as Intervideo Media files and when I tried to burn them to DVD, I got the error message, I then took the file and placed in the timeline and tried saving it again as DVD movie and part way into rendering, got the error message again.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Can't answer the question directly but I can comment on the second point. A friend gave me a copy of Nero; I installed that to try it. During the process it asks "do you want Nero to be the default player for ......... (yeah, why not)" - after that all the avi files, which had the little Windows Media icon next to them, were now Nero files. No biggie, just a different name, and Nero media player was the default selected software to play them.
(BTW, I thought that the stuff I already had - MyDVD - had an easier interface and did everything I wanted, so I uninstalled Nero again)
My guess is that WinDVD is the default player for media, mpeg, DVD etc etc. If you want to change that, go to Control Panel/Folder Options and look under DVD video. Or (easier) you can just pull up Windows Media Player and under tools/options make that the default player.
You may need a reinstall - hopefully someone else can help with that.

Thanks ! My problem ended up being after the non-destructive (ha!) restore, the registry ended up being a mess. The values for Ulead were set to 0, after doing some regediting and reinstall VS8 is now working.
VS8 still cannot do an erase and burn right, screws up my whole system and I have eliminated the fact that my DVD writer is messed up because I am able to use other software and burn and erase with no problems.
