Sharpening Video Filter in VS10+

Post by blplhp »

When working in a recent project, I applied the "Sharpen" video filter to one of my still images. Upon rendering the file, I noticed that when the duration of the still image was played, the sharpening effect continued to increase from beginning to end. In the control panel, when I clicked on Attribute|Customize Filter, I noticed that the starting keyframe had a sharpening default value set to 1, but the ending keyframe had a sharpening default value set to 4. Aha, that's why the increased sharpening throughout the duration of the image clip. Now, if one wanted to apply this filter to the entire clip, whether it be a video clip or a still image clip, and had no need to insert additional keyframes, one would never need to go into the Customize Filter dialog box, and would never have known that the program would automatically increase the sharpness for the duration of the clip. Does anyone know what the purpose is for the starting and ending keyframes having different default settings? If no purpose, then ULead ought to fix this and have the same default setting for both the starting and ending keyframes, and let the user adjust these as necessary.

Cheers,

I think you will find that every filter has different starting and ending values. I think that is Uleads way of demonstrating how the keyframes work.

Also, I always play my project back several times before I render, or create a video file. No sense wasting the rendering time only to find out there was a mistake and you have to render again.

Haste makes waste.

Thanks Jeff,

I suppose the User Manual ought to point this out, but then again, there are alot of things that the User Manual ought to point out in addition to this. Thanks for the insight.

I also, always play my project back several times before I perform a final render, or create a video file. I noticed this sharpening issue after I had let the program perform initial Smart Renderings while still in the edit step when I clicked on the play button with "project" playback selected.

After first starting to use this program, it didn't take long to learn to implement this procedure before Creating the Video File.

Thanks again,
