Hi
Have you tried capturing from the ‘video editor’
When connected via firewire, switch your camcorder to playback and turn on.
The Ulead Capture Manager usually recognises the device, do you want to use it
You should also be able to see the camera listed in your Device Manager, under Imaging Devices’.
Select the capture tab and capture video.
Your camera should be listed in the ‘Source’ Box
Select DV from the Format box.
The DV option should remain and NOT revert to Avi.
VS should have control of the camera via the controls below the preview screen.
Press Capture Video
How far do you get with this process.
Does this Help.

trevor andrew, I followed your steps, but there was no video shown on my computer when capturing and only sound came from my actual MiniDV. The following message popped up when I stopped capturing video:
"Capturing failed. The file created is corrupted and unusable. It will be automatically deleted."
How do I fix this? Thanks.

I have seen this warning in the past and has been caused by a poor input signal.
In my case a bad tape recording.
A faulty firewire card or cable, a bad connection maybe.
Does the Mini Dv tape playback ok within the camera?
If you have problems with playback then the camera heads may need cleaning.

trevor andrew, my MiniDV tape playback is ok within the camera. There are no problems with playback. It is clear, and while it is playing fine the counter is showing in the program, but there is no video preview.trevor andrew wrote:Hi

@rjs916
I asked you once before:
I hate guessing and my cristal ball is in for repairs.
A genaral answer to your problem has been given before, faulty connection/cable/capture card etc.
To narrow it down, we need to know what you connect and how to what capture device.

The type of camcorder that I use is a Sony DCR-TRV 25 MiniDV camcorder. My method of connection is through FireWire/IEEE 1394. There could be something wrong with the capture card?heinz-oz wrote:@rjs916

Oh yes, that info would have helped before also. To save you the trouble of posting your PC data again if you have a different question, I suggest you put it in your profile. Don't know how? Look at this http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=16180
Now back to your original question. Which capture plug-in and which device control did you select for the capture?
Device control: MS 1394 Device control
Capture plug-in: Ulead DirectShow Capture Plug-in
You will find these settings in the capture module.
We are dealing with faulty hardware if this doesn't help.
Is your device listed in "Device Mgr"? "Start" >Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device manager? It should look similar to this

If you have a symbol next to the listing, that would indicate a fault with the card or the driver.
Have you got access to a different computer with IEEE1394 port? Try to connect your camcorder to that one. Otherwise try with a different cable.
If we eliminate the cable and the PC card, the camera may be faulty.

Heinz-oz, there is no symbol next to the listing. The device control and capture plug-in was the one that you specified. I do not have another computer with an IEEE1394 port, as my laptop has none. The firewire cable used is the only one we have. There was no change, as there is still no video capture when I started capturing.
