When you say when you open it in the program theres no sound do you mean after you've captured and inserted into the timeline or just play the clip from the library?

Have you ever captured and played back a clip in VS with sound?

If so and this has happened recenlty then I would advise and un-install and re-installation

However if you've never had audio then i'd check your preferences as the chances are something isn't set up right there.

It might be that your version of VideoStudio does not support Dolby Digital audio (AC3), and that your source is using that type of audio.

What version of VideoStudio 9 do you have (be specific, as in FULL Retail, SE Bundled version, Trial, etc...)

Also, when you capture from your miniDVD camcorder, how are you doing the capture? Import from DVD, or some other method :?:

Suz,

Try some of the easier checks first. Sometimes, these can be the culprits:

1) Have you checked the Sound Control Panel that is part of your operating system to make sure that none of the volume levels have been lowered to zero or the mute box checked?

2) Also, there is a sound level control button in VS9, just below the preview screen. Make sure this setting is set to an audible level.
Cheers,

AFAIK, the SE versions are not able to use Dolby Digital. With one of your video clips in the library or on the timeline, right-click and select properties. Then post them here please...

I just had what I think is a similiar problem, and I realized that I had left the camcorder on and connected to the pc and the playback was going back to the camcorder and that is why there was no sound. I know this is very simple and probably not the answer, but just in case, I thought I would try to help.
