Pan & Zoom Video Filter in VS10+

Post by blplhp »

In reading Steve J's tutorial, "From Camcorder to DVD", Editing section, he gives an example of applying the pan and zoom video filter to a digital photo image. Right after that sequence, he also mentions that as an alternative, one can select the pan and zoom option from the Image Control Panel. The pan and zoom control panels for each of these two methods that come up are slightly different in appearance and function. The video filter pan and zoom control panel has more timeline buttons to choose from and it has the playback speed adjustment button. The Image pan and zoom control panel has fewer timeline buttons and does not have the playback speed button (wish it did!), but it does have the Logarithmic Interpolation check box. My question is this - does one of these two pan and zoom methods produce a better video quality when played back in a rendered video file (and ultimately on a DVD disc/TV)? The preview screen within the Image pan and zoom control panel seems to produce a clearer focused image than the Video pan and zoom filter control panel's preview screen when applying the same keyframes and settings to the same photo. Is this just a playback aberation, or is this indicative of the true playback quality in a rendered video file?

Thanks,

Bryan P.

I’m not sure so I'm looking forward to the answer too, and if I remember correctly I’ve even used both simultaneously.

Apart from the missing playback speed the number of timeline buttons is an optical illusion, there are 7 in each. In the one with the lograthmic interpolation version two of the 'buttons' are on the ends of the timeline, in the other version these two buttons are grouped with the other 5.

The fact that the logarithmic interpolation version only works with still images tends to suggest that is the one for still images and the other for video.

Steve,

Thanks again for your excellent help!!

Could you please mention it to ULead to include the playback speed button in the Image Pan & Zoom function in a future enhancement?

Thanks,
