Purchase decision questions, part 2

Post by jwillb »

:?:

A few months ago, I was thinking about buying DMF 5 to complement my Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 NLE. Now I'm considering VS 10+!

Does it (VS) have the following stuff that is being touted in DMF 5+?

73 "easy-to-use" templates
HD Slideshow
Motion overlays for menus

Due to upgrade, I can get the VS 10+ cheaper than DMF5+

Thanks for the help
Jay B. :)

Hi Jay, I'm not sure what you mean by "Motion overlays for menus" but I think so and yea VS10+ has easy-to-use-templates and slideshows are a breeze. I'm new to editing but in my opinion VS10+ works great, it's very easy to use, and worth every penny. :D

I wouldn't base my decission on how many menu templates are included. It's easy enough to make your own. I have to see one template yet, supplied with any software, that I "really" like. I would always make alterations if I can.

Hi Jay,

I also agree with Joe that VS10+ is very easy to use, works great, is very intuitive, and produces great quality video projects on a very stable platform. However, VS10+ only has 14 menu templates to choose from, but like heinz-oz said, you can always custom make your own within VS10+ or in PhotoImpact 10 or 11, which is ULead's photo editing software program. In about two weeks, Movie Factory 5 Plus will be available and I plan on getting that program to accompany VS10+. I will use VS10+ for capturing/editing and MF5+ for DVD authoring/burning.

Cheers,

As far as I can see on the Ulead site, MF5+ is already available in the download edition, but not yet in the 'boxed' edition (which at least this time they only describe as 'CD + Manual'!!)

Hi Bryan, does MF5+ burn faster than VS10+ or are there another reasons?

I will also be interested in his reply to this one. As far as I can tell the modules are identical. Any 'bugs' found by forum members have also been common to both.

Heres one example:
Result of tests

Another is when capturing and both MF5 and VS10 splits the capture up until 4GB chunks - also reported to Ulead Tech Suport.

As far as I have been informed thru other forum members, the burning engines and the modules are suppose to be the same between VS10+ and MF5+, just like Steve J mentioned. That was not my reason for wanting to use MF5+. The reason I want to use MF5+ for DVD authoring/burning instead of VS10+ is because MF5+ is suppose to have more menu templates to choose from and a few more edit functions and choices. Perhaps I should not have used the term "DVD Authoring/Burning" and should have said "DVD Authoring" only, since the burning engines are the same. Sorry if this caused confusion. Since I am waiting for the "Boxed" edition to become available, I don't yet have this program. I personally don't like downloading the full program, I prefer to install from a CD. I was just stating my preference for using VS10+ for its design intent and strength, which is video capturing/editing. Please don't misunderstand, I think VS10+ does a fine job with DVD authoring, and its burning quality and speed is great. I can burn a one hour DVD movie file in less than 30 minutes with the 4x burning speed selected!! Pretty fast, I would say, considering that some of that time is used to build the menus, etc., before even getting to the burning phase itself. But MF5+ design intent and strength is in DVD authoring, and is suppose to offer more authoring choices. Is there anyone who has downloaded the full version of MF5+ who can compare the authoring choices against VS10+?

Cheers,

Maybe you should trial both Movie Factory and PhotoImpact and see which might serve you better. It could turn out that MF still doesn't customize it the way you want, but with PI you can make exactly what you want.

Just a thought. 8)
