Image Resampling Option in VS10+

Post by blplhp »

Hey guys,

All of my digital photos that I take have a 4:3 aspect ratio. All of my VS10+ project settings and video file settings are 720 x 480, which equates to a 4.5:3 aspect ratio. In many of my video projects, I import alot of photos. If I want my digital photos in my final DVD movie for TV playback to look correct (and I am using non-square pixel rendering, too), which Preferences|Edit|Image Resampling Option setting should I choose - Keep Aspect Ratio or Fit to Project Size?

Hey Guys,

I forgot to mention that my TV also has an aspect ratio of 4:3.

I guess that begs the question - if the digital photos included in my video project are 4:3 and my TV is 4:3, why have all of the recommendations for best video quality and size for NTSC TV playback been 720 x 480, which has a ratio of 4.5:3?

Thanks. I eagerly await your replies.

:twisted: WRONG! :twisted: Unlike your still photos, the video pixels are not square. A fullscreen 4:3 DVD is 720x480* and a 16:9 widescreen DVD is 720x480 also!

Your 4:3 pictures should be fine. Either option should work in your case.

Just be aware of "overscan". TVs don't show the whole picture. Some of hte image will be cut-off on all sides.

* NTSC = 720x480, PAL = 720x576
