Create DVD Problem

Post by xImran »

Hi Guys

I have done the editing of the video and now it's ready to be burned, when I goto share and click create disc the window opens up I choose the format etc. but NEXT button is dimmed meaning I can't record.

My video length is about 3 hours and 50 minutes and I am using DVD+R DL Disc to record the movie. My DVD Burner is Samsung SH-S182D connected via USB to IDE cable. My Poject settings are as following.

MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Frame-based
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 3000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

Please advise what am I doing wrong? :?:

Are you using the 'Add Media' button to insert your selected file, or are you trying to burn from the timeline? It feels like Video Studio can't see the file you're trying to burn and therefore won't let you proceed.

Before you burn a disc, let's look at your video file properties:

1. You are wanting to burn a DVD, so why the Frame Based field order? That is generally used for viewing on a computer and/or for photographs, that are not interlaced (having an Upper and Lower fields).

2. You are using PAL, which I think is correct for your location, however for your audio, you chose LPCM. I think you would do better, using either MPEG audio or Dolby Digital. The latter will also allow more space for your video.

Now to help with the above, can you advise is your video comprised of just pictures, like for a slide-show? If not, how did you capture your video, and what is it source? DV (AVI) from a camcorder, VCR captured as an analogue, or downloaded from the internet, or possibly Television?

1. Most Analogue video clips are Upper Field First, where most DV(digital video) are Lower Field First. Reversing or choosing the wrong field order can result in jerky playback.

2. LPCM is a lossless audio format, that does yield exellent quality, however at the expense of disc space. It is generally used for NTSC DVDs. Dolby Digital is an great audio compression, that gives good audio quality and compresses the audio to allow for more video on a disc. DD and MPEG audio are commonly recognized formats for the PAL DVDs. Since you are having to sacrifice your video quality (VBR-3000kbps), to fit your video files onto a disc, you should consider using Dolby Digital. Even with a D/L disc you should be able to fit more then 3hrs on it.

Lastly, are you starting with an empty timeline when you go to Share>Create Disc? While it is possible to jump right into the burn module with a project in the timeline, it is recommended against. If you are starting with a blank timeline, then once you open the burn module, (Share>Create Disc) you must insert a Video File. Do this by clicking on the Movie Icon. Then with a video clip inserted the Next button should be activated...

Thanks all for your replies, the media consists of Video and still pictures. The video is from VCDs actually from almost 6 of them which I cut to about 3 hours and 50 minutes. Most of the time its the Audio from the VCD .dat file but in between I have inserted Audio clips on the timeline and even some Titles as well.

I open the project and then click share and create disc, I will try doing it the way you advised and post back the results here.

Update:When I click on share without anything on the timeline and then click create disc VS10 just simply closes without any error or warning. Is it a bug or problem with my installation?

Hi guys

I am back with positive feedback with all your help I am able to finish and burn my 1st ever (personally edited) DVD Disc.

Regarding the issue with the "Create Disc" when I try to go from the open project to create disc it was dimmed but after I removed the Media and add it back from the top button the NEXT Button was enabled and I was able to go to the burn screen.

Once again thanks for all your help.
