problem creating chapter text

Post by dseps »

Hi,

I'm having a problem creating the Chapter Text in a Menu Template in DVD Movie Factory IV

Here is my work flow. Note: I am a new user of Movie Factory.

Start Project
then Next

Add Media File file.mpg
choose Create Menu
then Next

DVD Movie Factory chooses by default the Menu Template Special Events Spec01 -- or I can choose my own. Makes no difference in the below.

Spec01 has a box with My Title in it. When I try to change My Title to the title I want, it ignores my character input and beeps.

I can move the My Title text box around without problem.

Spec01 also contains a box with the file name in it. I can also move that box around but not change the text.

I have tried a number of templates, including creating my own, but with the same results. I am unable to add my text into the boxes.

One other thing. When I double-click the LEFT mouse button, a font popup box opens. One time a box popped up that allowed me to change the text. But most always the font box pops up. It's maddening and frustrating.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Dan

Hi Dan, and welcome to the forums..:)

Have you been able to change/add titles previously, and this just started occuring? You may need to do a repair install (if you have the Full CD) if not a full re-install of the program. If you do need to do a Full Reinstall, please follow the procedure for doing this found here:

Reinstallation of Ulead Products.

Also have you ensured that all the updates have been applied? They can be found here:

DMF4 Updates

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the welcome and your prompt reply!

I've never gotten titles to work previously because I am a newbie. As I wrote, it works intermittently. Usually not. I've yet to complete one DVD authoring and it is holding me up.

It is a new install under winXP home, version 4.04SE which I think is the latest, according to the updates you pointed me to.

I'd be happy to do a reinstall though if that will fix it.

Support wrote me and told me to do a reinstall and apply the burning update burn_patch.htm. How that will help I have no idea. I will, however, follow this advice when I get home later today and report back.

Again, how's it supposed to work? Left mouse click on text brings up a box with text in it and then it can be changed? Whereas on my installation it brings up the Fonts choice box--usually?

Thanks,
Dan

Hi,

Try double-click to open the box for editing.
Or right mouse button and Edit.

OK, I tried completely uninstalling the product as per the advice, I then cleaned the registry of the many ulead references, and did a complete reinstall.

Same problem.

When I left click on the template box where it says "Enter Text Here", up comes the font popup. When I right click on the box, nothing happens. Even when selecting a template that I can change, the right mouse button does nothing.

My winxp mouse has never had a problem and right/left/scroll wheel buttons work elsewhere in DVD MovieFactory.

As I wrote, on occasion, and with some templates, the left click works. Most of the time not. When I have the problem and chose a font that works on a working template and click OK, the problem is still there. I thought maybe there were missing fonts, but choosing a working one should then enable me to change the text, but it doesn't.

This is really frustrating, and as a new user, I can't complete my first project after spending now about 2 hours on this one problem.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

OK, I said I was a newbie, and I was just not using the product as intended. I was going to layout and you can not edit menu data in layout. I did not realize this.

Why did I not realize this? For one, I have no user manual for MF 4. They took it off the web site. I also looked for a tutorial walking a beginner through a very simple dvd create from video input. Couldn't find one.

The web site seems good on pushing products but not in helping a beginner. I got MF4 with my WinTV 150 card. I'm now up an running, sort of. Thanks for the suggestions.

BTW: I did try support via web/mail. I was told to reinstall, nothing else. I did this and when it didn't work, I reported it. Neer heard back. I ended up calling support. "Mike" tokd me he couldn't help me since I got the product as a bundle with WinTV and I had to use the web interface. When I told him they were not replying, and said I would return the product unless I got it working, he helped me and immediately saw what I was doing wrong. I doubt I would have figured it out on my own, no tuturial.
