import dvd - audio track question

Post by singha »

I am trying to extract a scene from a Japanese movie on DVD that has 2 audio tracks. When I played the movie on DVD player, it will default to the Japanese sound track. However, when I import the clip into VideoStudio (v10+), the clip plays in English track. How can I import the Japanese track into VS?

thanks in advance for your help,

Ron,

Thanks for trying.

This is what I get from Ulead Support:

"Sorry, VideoStudio only supports capturing of English audio data of DVD movies of multilingual audio options. Or, like DVD player programs it is default to capture only the English audio and don't have the option for getting the other audio data. But we will improve that in the future versions of the program.

Please be informed we have also forwarded this matters to the R&D department for proper assessment and implementation. We will keep you posted for any developments regarding this issue or you may visit our website regularly for any updates.

Thank you.

Workaround:

If you have an analog capture device then capture the Japanese language playback and use it in your edit/DVD compilation. Works only for unprotected DVD's, but there you go.

The program VideoReDo allows you to select between all the various audio streams on a DVD, including foreign language ones. The bad news is that the program is not free. The good news is that there is a trial version (though I am not certain whether this contains all the features of the full program). In any case, the full program costs 'only' US$50, and is a very handy tool to have around for things like out of sync audio and video and other problems that arise from editing mpegs. Go to www.videoredo.com
