VS10+ : Mixing Video & Stills but keeping Audio Sync

Post by wywso0 »

I have some video of an outdoor band concert. At times the pictures are not as good as they should be - eg wobbly picture as a result of zooming in too far (yes, I know you should use a tripod but we didn't ....).

Anyway, what I plan to do is to put in some stills (either taken from the video track or from digital photos shot at the same time) to cover up the most offending bits. However, I need to keep the audio of the band running whilst the still is on the screen and when I go back to the movie track I need to keep audio sync.

Is using an overlay track the best way to achieve this? Can I enlarge a still in an overlay track so that it completely obscures the underlying movie?

Grateful for your views?

Yes. What you want to do is very easy. Just put your stills in the overlay track, right click the picture and choose Fit to Screen. Doing it this way will hard cut from the video to the still and back to video again. You can put a fade in/out on the overlay if you would rather have that look.

Hi

Just to add, as well as Fit to Screen, you may have to right click again and select Keep Aspect Ratio
This will stop your images from being distorted, depending on the original ratios.

Using several overlay tracks will allow you to fit more than one image to the frame.
