DVD Burner Disc Template

Post by blplhp »

My Created Video Files that are imported into the DVD Authoring/Burner module of VS10+ have the following settings:

MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L, R)

The project settings for the DVD Authoring/Burner module are as follows, matching the video file:

MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L, R)

I have made DVD movies of two different projects so far, and I have never checked or adjusted the "Disc Template Manager", by clicking the bottom leftmost icon in the burner module.

The default highlighted disc template during these two DVD burns was "HG 4:3 (Dolby Digital)" with the following properties:

MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 7000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L, R)

Please note the only two differences between the "disc template" settings and the "video file/DVD project" settings are the frame type (lower field first vs. frame based) and the video data rate (8000 kbps vs. 7000 kbps).

My question is this - when I burned my two DVD projects, what properties are on those two DVD discs - the 8000 kbps with lower field first or 7000 kbps with frame based?

Thanks for your help.

Providing you have checked "Do not convert compliant MPEG files" then everything will be set as per your own settings and not that of the template.

If on the other hand a video failed to be compliant it would then take on the template settings.

DVD Burner Disc Template

Thanks Steve,

Yes, I have the box "Do not convert compliant MPEG files" checked. So, I am OK, then.

However, I just created a custom Disc Template to match the video file properties, just for the heck of it.

Thanks again, I wasn't looking forward to having to burn two new DVD's. Now I don't have to.

Cheers,
