Annoying clicks, pops, glitches and any other negative....
Hello, can anyone help me with an irritating audio problem I have?
I have just finished a project in VS10 that consists of multiple clips cut and edited together. On one of the clips I have reduced the speed of the playback to give a slow-mo effect. On preview the whole video plays perfectly, but once rendered, there is an irritating pop right at the moment the slow-mo scene kicks in. There is a vocal sample playing at that point also in another audio track, and that seems to crackle a bit too. All other transistions and effects are fine once past this point.
I have tried everything I can to get rid of this pop and crackle. I've even tried recording the audio seperate from the video, but still get the click and pops in the same place.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Did the video clip that has been slowed down contain audio?
If so what did you do with that audio - mute it?
You could try this.
Extract the video clip that you want to slow down to a new project.
Render that video separately muting the audio and applying your speed change. You now have a silent video clip of the required speed/duration.
Now return to your main project and replace the video clip concerned with this new one.

Hello again. Thank you for solving my last problem, your solution worked perfectly. However, I always had an issue with the clip that I slowed down. I wanted a smooth slow motion effect, but Ulead's speed settings seem to make the video jerky and choppy.
I imported the clip into Pinnacle which has an amazing slow motion effect and is very smooth - brilliant! I then imported the clip back into VS, making sure all the settings were the same. But every time the timeline reaches my slow-mo clip, the preview window drops to about 3 fps. This makes it impossible to see if my idea actually works or not.
I am rapidly loosing faith in Ulead and its VideoStudio. Every time I solve a problem, it is instantly replaced with another. I seem to spend 80% of my time working around glitches or problems. I'm sure if I had used another program, I would have had this project done days ago.
Am I wasting my time with VideoStudio? Does anyone else find this app awkward and clumsy? Would Pinnacle be better for editing and arranging clips?
Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

You didn't tell us anything about your file format, and how you captured it. The Read This First... post at the top of the forum tells you what we need to know in order to help you.
(I have a hunch you are working with MPEG, DivX, or another highly compressed format.)

Sorry DVDDoug, I am working in uncompressed AVI format. I have done a little test and rendered the first 30 seconds, which contain the slow-motion clip. It renders fine, absolutely perfect in fact, it's just the preview window that plays it back at a very low frame rate.DVDDoug wrote:You didn't tell us anything about your file format, and how you captured it. Luckily, the project is just about finished, so all I had to do was just insert the imported slow-mo clip. If I had to do any editing on that or any surrounding clips, then the jerky preview window would have made it impossible to align video and audio samples.
Do you have any idea why VS does this? Everything was going fine until I imported the Pinnacle clip. Now the sorrounding clips play jerky too.

Hi
The playback in video studio can be a bit poor, especially when playing clips with effects applied.
What are your system PC specs update your profile.
Try this:-
Click the Slow-Mo clip to select.
Clip-Save Trimmed Video
This will render the Slow-Mo to a new clip.(using the same properties) saving it to the working folder.
A thumbnail of the new clip will be placed in the library.
Replace the clip in the timeline with the new clip.
Has the playback improved

Hi
I just ran a test re my post above and produced terrible results, don’t know why!
So:-
Drag the Slow-Mo to the library to make a copy.
Start a new project
Insert the Slow-Mo clip
Share Create Video File—Same as first clip
This will render the clip to a new file, placing a thumbnail in the library
Open the original project and replace the Slow-Mo file
This seemed to work for me.

Hi
I was aware of your posting regarding an audio problem.and also aware of the reply from Bagshot
Hey, thanks SJJ! It worked perfectly. I faded out the clip before it as well, for extra smoothness.
His following posting indicated similar problems. Posted: Tue Aug 29, 2006 6:41 pm
(it's just the preview window that plays it back at a very low frame rate.)
This is what I replied to
