DVD with transition effect

Post by pionex1234 »

When I made a slideshow with DVD format with transition effects. The quality of the pictures is not as sharp as the slideshow without the transition effects. I thought the transition effects only affects the quality of a VCD format slideshoow. Does anybody have this problem?

Yes, you're better off without any effects.

Are you just watching it on the computer? You may find that it's good enough on a TV.

The slideshow was produced with Picture Show version 3 and Yes, I watched the slideshow on my computer. Even though Ulead's product FAQ section suggests that users should diable Anti-flicker function if they choose to watch the slideshow on the computer, it does not help at all. It appeared to me that Version 2 produced better result.

DPS3 adds a little blur effect on all the pictures to avoid flickering issue, and that's why the output slideshow looks not as sharp as those created by DPS2.

But maybe Ulead will release another patch to solve this kind of problem as they have read this post.

I downloaded the latest 5 in 1 patch for the Picture Show version 3 and burned one copy of DVD with transition effect. The DVD picture quality has improved; however, i found out that with my Viewsonic LCD flat panel
monitor model VA 720, which is designed to use as a PC monitor and as a TV when TV tuner is connected to it, the antiflicker filter option must be checked in the Preference output setting. Otherwise, the pictures will flicker. By checking the antiflickering filter, it will eliminate the flikering problem in more than 98 % of the pictures. I am wondering whether Ulead differentiates the type of monitors in determining if antiflitering filter should be checked or not.

To overcome the "blurr" created by the antiflicker option I do a couple of things...

1. I dont let PS3 "shrink" my pics from the original digital resolution I do it with a Photo Editor to slightly bigger than the DVD resolution.

2. I increase the saturation generally about 20% depending on the pic ..skin tones for instance would be less....

3. And lastly I increase the sharpening by one factor ...( to much will induce flicker on some pics)

4. I resave the pic at a High Compression ( the least ammount of compression) for jpg.

By doing this I get some great results ...
