Anyone have this problem ? I created a short title video clip and then added it to a video clip in VS10 . I rendered it as "same as first clip" when I tried to play it back with Win MP10 it starts to connect then crashes...my desktop goes blank and then I get it back but the clip will not play I have no problems with playing any other clips with MP10. Also created a fanfare with cool3d pro studio. MP10 plays it perfect after creation. I than add it to a video clip and MP 10 will not play it. but the clip plays fine in Power DVD. Could the problem be in VS10 when rendering ? This problem only developed recently. I even uninstalled MP10 and reinstalled a fresh copy. I did a system restore to a day before this problem started.

Windows MP10 won't play VS10 clip
Ken... sorry should have provided information. To make it more understandable let me explain in detail what is happening. This is now after I deleted VS10 and re-installing it as well as MP10. Note Win XP Pro was installed about a week ago and everything was working correctly. Now from the begining (:Please disregard prior message as to combining clips) I started with cool 3D Production studio and created a fanfare then saved it as an AVI file of 653 mb with windows media player as the default player . I viewed that on MP10 and it played correctly. I then opened VS10 as a new project and placed the fanfare clip into the time line. I then added audio to the timeline and played the clip in VS10 viewer. It played correctly so I open " create a video file" and made a "same as first clip" . I then again viewed it and played ok I closed down VS10 and went to the folder where the new clip was I then clicked the WMP icon of the clip and MP10 opened saying "connecting" and showing the hour glass, then it closed down and the next thing was a blank desktop with no icons shown then the screen went to completely white with all icons and a message displayed " restore active desktop" I clicked on the message bar and my normal desktop appeared. Thinking that something was wrong with the creation I again went through the entire process again this time creating the fanfare as an mpeg2 file DVD.
Again attempting to play back this clip same thing happened as above. I then tried to open it with Power DVD and it opened the clip and played it. Note here is the interesting thing If I went to eather clip and right click them to see the properties or copy ETC. the desktop goes blank and icons disappear like above. Now I went back to clips I made a few days ago with VS10 and they open correctly in MP10 or Power DVD. So I'm guessing it must have something to do with the rendering process, but remember I have re-installed VS10 ( clean )
any thoughts
Bill

No. That sounds rather mystifying, though at first guess it sounds as though it could have been a question of codecs. WMP is very particular, it seems, about what codecs it regards as compatible. Microsoft even brought out a testing program which looks at your mpeg-2 codecs in particular and rates them as being wholly compatible or only partially compatible, or not compatible at all. Even more curious, from the point of view of your own particular problem, when I have used this testing program in the past, it has found that the Cyberlink codecs (such as those used for PowerDVD) have been totally compatible. It also finds that the Intervideo one installed by VS10+ is totally compatible with MP10.
The program is called Microsoft Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility. You could search for it on the Microsoft site or you could send me an email address and I could forward it to you as it is very small (162KB). My own email is in the button below my signature.
