Need help with a "play all" button

Post by dax702 »

Hi, in some recent DVDs I made, they had a "play all" button which I created in the playlist. The problem with the play all is that if the user hits the "next" button on his remote, it will go to the next title, but then after that next title is done playing, it goes back to the menu. Meanwhile the user is expecting it to go to the next one automatically in a "play all" frame of mind.

So for this video, I have 21 titles I imported into WS2. None of the titles have any chapters because they're lessons and each title is the start of a new lesson. How can I make it so that even if the user interrupts by hitting the next button on his remote control, it will continue the playlist without going back to the menu?

Try to put a DUMMY Chapter point right at the last I-Frame of each Title (do not link it to any of the menus). Then when you hit the NEXT button, it should go to that dummy chapter point, and then continue playing the next Title in the playlist.

It works! But I'm wondering, am I going to run into any kind of issue with DVD players? Are you allowed to have a chapter point that close to the end of a title?

I'm not aware of any issues, and I have done several DVD's this way.

One of the DVD Authoring plugin tools I use (for a different Authoring package) has a user-preferences option to auto-add a chapter point on the last I-Frame

I have also seen some retail/hollywood dvd's authored with this technique.

I don't get what you're asking? The suggestion of putting a chapter point at the last I-frame is working great for me. By putting the chapter point at the end, when the user hits the next button on his remote it doesn't interrupt the sequence of titles but gives the impression he is going to the next title. It works, use it =)

but by adding a end point, will it be a twice video freeze when doing next? 1 is the I frame at end point and another is I frame of next title?

I will tey it today.

Thanks for the info.

Hi, I'm sorry for bumping an old topic to the top but I am hoping someone here could solve a little problem.

I had the same problem as the thread starter which I solved thanks to the help in this thread. But, one problem still remains; the "next" button on the remote will happily move to the next chapter and the next title no problem. The "previous" button on the remote will happily move to previous chapters within a title but it won't move to a previous title within the playlist.

Is there any way to solve this niggling problem because at the moment I have users who wish to watch a previous title within the playlist who are forced to go back to the menu and select play all from the beginning?

Thanks in advance. :)

I hope you get an answer as I have the same issues too. 'Next' works fine for me too. However when I want to go back to the previous item, pressing 'Previous' just throws me back to the main menu.

The easiest way to make the PREV button work the way you want would be to combine all your Titles into one long Title. Then NEXT/PREV will skip through the way you want.

This approach will prevent you from easily playing a single "Chapter" and returning to the menu (if that's what you also need).
