Installing DVDMF5 Plus... and who knows what????

Post by SciFiFan »

Just bought and installed MF5 + upgrade and a number of Intervideo apps were installed automatically, WITHOUT AN OPTION TO EXCLUDE THEM. I don't need another disk copy utility, another DVD player and WinCinema Manger, and Intervideo Information Service (god knows what THAT does) and who know what else.

Is anyone else a little? peeved about not having a choice on this stuff going on the system? Especially those that come up with the ability to communicate to the internet (Information Service).

Anyone have a complete list of this stuff and how to nuke it?

Hello John,
I haven't tried the MF5+ version, but I would also be somewhat angry about additional stuff and services without choice.

You can use regedit manually etc. but I recommend msconfig.
Start -> Run and enter msconfig.
Check the Services and Startup tabs.
The nice thing about msconfig is that you have an overview of where things are started from (Startup menu, registry) and can easily enable items later that you've disabled.

I don't believe MF has such services, but just a note:
You will not see all services, not in the Services administrative tool either. Some services are setup with flags to not show and disallow changing their properties. Regedit (and know-how) is needed to change these. Yep, lots of hidden stuff in this operating system.

The installation program didn't give your this type of screen?
It should be in the "Customize" screen to choose the programs to install.

Nope, Just the format, licence, and location of install and shortcuts. When I try a reinstall, I get two options, repair and remove. Believe me, I look for these things just for the reasons I said above, that I want control of what goes on my system.
