Hello, first time poster here. I'm trying to figure out a way to make a colored "outline" around my colored text. For example, If I have a black text, and I want a red outline around the edges of the text, how do I go about that. I can not find a way.
When you select the Text Tool, on the Tool Options Bar just above the Image work area is a checkbox named Border. When checked you can select the Border width and then set the color.
You can also add a Shadow.
I don't have XL installed anymore, so I can't give you a screen print of it.
In the menu bar, where you set your font and size for the text, over to the right you will see a selection box next to "Border". When you select that, the border settings become active and you can set the width and the color of the border. If you already have the text typed, you need to select it again, select the text tool, highlight the text and then make your settings for the border.
Okay, the Border is in a different location for PIXL, sorry my error!!!
On the Tool Options Bar, click the icon named Materials to call the Materials Properties dialog box.
Select the Tab named Border/Depth to add a border to your text. Make the necessary changes and apply your settings.
Okay, then we will have to do this the hard way!!!
Change the text to 2D and then deselect the text, no marching ants.
With the Magic Wand Tool, select the background.
On the command Menu, select Format and then Invert, which will now select the text. If anti-aliased, use this technique, do not try to select the text directly or you may get white ringed areas.
With the Mouse right click on the text, and from the Menu List select Border.
The Border Properties dialog Box will appear. Select inner or outer border, the size of the border, and soft edge of the border.
Select the desired color from the color palette, then select the Flood Fill Tool and fill the border area with color.
Select the Text Tool and change to a 3D text. Make any additional changes as needed.
Use the "Outline Text" Tool to create your text (and shadow) [blue arrow]
Use the "eyedropper" tool in "+" mode, selecting the 'open' parts of text.
In the sample below, I set the "Similarity" vale at 50.
Then filled.
