Cannot read memory error with VS 10 +

Post by rhetfield »

I have recently installed an update from VS 6 SE to VS 10+ on a Dell with 2 GB memory and a 500 GB hard drive. I am using Mpeg2 files from a Sony HDD camcorder (SR100). I have tried using the auto scene split feature with a couple of different small files (3 minute and 6 minute). The software will process the command, then crash at the end with an application error. The message is "Instruction <xxxxxxx> cannot "read" at memory location 0x00000004". It is always the same location and instruction #. I have tried reinstalling with the procedure recommended by tech support. I have seen from past posts that similar issues are generally attributed to faulty memory sticks. If the memory sticks check out OK (I have limited access to the computer in question and can't check immediately), are there other things to check for? I have noted that the prior poster was also using a Sony HDD camera. Are there issues with the SOny HDD cameras and their Mpeg2 files with this software?

Thank You
Randy

Maybe.... Here's a similar post. :( It does sometimes have trouble with MPEGs. It has trouble with corrupt MPEGs, and editing an MPEG with Video Studio can actually cause corruption. This doesn't always happen. In fact, crashing is rare. But every time it's happened to me, it's been an MPEG.

There are procedures and work-arounds that work for some users. I'll leave it to others to help with that. My solution was to buy a special-purpose MPEG editor from Womble.
