VS7 sending video to camcorder problem

Post by Chewie »

I have a finished AVI file that I need to send back to my camera.

I click on share/ export/ DV recording, and the DV recording box comes up.

I then click "next", and I get an error message saying it doesn't recognize the camera.

What am I missing?

I tested my camera by receiving signals from my vcr, so it's not the camera.

You presumably tested your camera by connecting it to your VCR via the composite (red, white, yellow leads) - but when you want to send your movie from your PC to your camera you need to use the firewire connection (aka i-link, IEEE1394, DV port etc.) do you know if your camcorder is enabled for DV-in (NOT AV-in which you used with your VCR) and are you connecting via firewire.

Thanks Brain,

At least now I know where to focus, because I tried every possible cable connection.

I do have a DV in with a USB on the other end, but to no result. Maybe it's a bad cable.

My camera is a Canon Z45.

Sorry - what do you mean "DV in with USB on the other end" - DV means firewire - NOT anything to do with USB - you need a firewire cable connecting the firewire (DV) connector on your camera to a Firewire port on your PC

Sorry, I must've misread the cable connector names. The camera does have a DV port, but that is not the cable I have.

And since I don't have firewire cables, that would explain why it doesn't work.

Thanks Brian.

I had to get a firewire card & cable, and now it works.

Thank you very much for the help, Brian!

I really appreciate it.
