5.1 not encoding properly

Post by Morris »

Hi I've been using V10 plus for the last month or so and I am experiencing and odd problem. I added video clips to a project and then added audio clips to provide background music to the clips. When I created the DVD i noticed that when I played it on a DVD that supported 5.1 there was no problem the sound was in 5.1 and it was correctly encoded. However, when I took the 5.1 setting off on the DVD player, the centre sound moved to the right speaker.

I double checked this problem by creating a video file only in 5.1. When I tried to import into another software (Adobe Encore), i played the video, the sound went to the right speaker again. There would still be some sound in the left speaker, but most of the sound went to the right.

I did a test to see if it was the 5.1 encoding that was causing the problem. So I created a video file with Dolby 2.0 as the setting. It played great in the non 5.1 setting on my DVD player as well as in Adobe encore. It sounded centred and in Stereo.

Ordinarily this would not be an issue in that if I create a disk to play in 5.1, it will. But if i ever want to incorporate a video clip into another software, the results are incorrect.

Finally, here is the kicker. The sound from the video clip, in all the above scenarios) is okay (it was recorded on a Sony 405 that shoots in 5.1). It is the audio clip that ends up being pushed to one speaker. I tried changing from 44.1 to 48, but no success. I've been trying to mess around with the audio settings, but no success. When I render in 5.1, it skews to one speaker.

Any idea what might be causing this?

Wow, I use VS10+ and a Sony DCR-DVD405 too and I add background music plus narration but I’ve never experienced that problem - good luck.
