Video Grabber Drivers

Post by smeghead »

I have a VCR hooked to my PC via VC211A Video Grabber (USB port).
the disk that came with was "Ulead Video Studio 7 + the drivers".
My problem- I need the drivers so I can capture some videos and put them on DVD..
Any advice or Help finding what I need will be Great...

I think you are pushing a string but since you already have it, go here for the drivers http://members.driverguide.com/driver/d ... rid=385806

Thanks, I had already tried to get it going with your sugested driver.
I ran the set up then rebooted myPC, but it still can't detect my VCR.

I need to get these Videos to DVD in the best resolution possible,so I'm open to other suggestions.
I do have a V9180 Video Suite v31.40D video card (dual monitor+TV in-out)
maybe there's a way to "pull the string"

It most likely will never detect your VCR but it should detect your USB device. Does your OS notice the device when you plug it in?

still trying

When I refered to my VCR I should have refered to my USB Video Grabber..
When I boot up Win XP finds "new hardware" which is my Grabber, but cannot find the drivers for it..I had downloaded the "grabeexdriverxp.rar"
unpacked it an ran the setup (I didn't have a choice where to place it) so I don't know where to search for the .ini file..I did a search of both my drives and win\system and win\system32.

I also ran a search for [ *.ini ] I came up with [ audiograbber.ini] but no video, so I guess I still don't have the drivers.

Thanks,.[/img]

If Windows cannot install the drivers properly, how do you expect it to see your device? And how do you figure that that is a VS problem?

Can you return the device or demand proper drivers from the vendor?

Heinz -- as he said, he lost the original disc! So I guess he is not in a position to "demand" anything...

smeghead, please allow me to offer an "off topic" but related thought to you. I mean this with all respect to your primary effort to find drivers.

Please take this for what its worth as it is intended in good faith.

I've been to this "movie". The trouble with installing those drivers is merely the beginning of your frustrations if your wanting to capture video via USB.

I would like to suggest either the Pyro AV Link which connects to your PC via firewire, or the more expensive Canopus line of model 110 or 300.

Save yourself, your hair, your very sanity, and forget USB captures.

with all respects,

HOLD EVERYTHING!!!!!

I finally found drivers that work..
Now I have more problems,, using VS9 I get no sound on the capture, this leads me to believe  what you said DiscCoasterPro so I think I'll take your advice and look for another way

Thank you everyone for your help, I'm sure I'll need it again soon :)

smeghead, its so true. Once you solve (if you do) your "no audio" you will have out of sync audio, once you solve that (by stopping your capture short and spicing clips) you will have field order issues.

Look for an external capture device that inputs to your computer via firewire and hardware encodes to DV-AVI. Be sure the device says DV-AVI and not just AVI either. Thats another con job they try to sell ya.

good luck, and I wish I was told early on,

dcp

Smeghead -- if you are 'capturing' from a source which uses Dolby audio, and you only have an SE version of VS9, then you need to be aware that it can't handle Dolby. You need the full version of VS9 or 10+ to do that.

My other thought: I don't know your video grabber at all. But a lot of those devices require a separate cable to connect an audio-OUT plug on the device to the LINE-IN on your computer ... in other words, to transmit the sound. I know as I have one. It was my very first capture device, and the minimalist instruction page did not mention this.

Thank you once again DCP and KB.

My VCR isn't Dolby so I don't think thats a problem, and yes it does have a sound input cable to my sound card.. I get sound ok when I'm capturing but when I play back there is no sound..
what I did: a) Open Capture screen
b) Options.
c) Video & Audio capture property settings
d) it shows my Video and Audio saurce and devices correctly. (also there is a check box "checked" [Preview Audio with USB device]..I assume this is to listen when captureing.

I'm not too worried about it I'm going to take dcp's advice and go Firewire, but just for the experiance I'm going to try and get it working to the best possible. If you don't try you don't learn..

smeg fer brains :D
