Poor Still Image appearance

Post by mauryw »

I am inserting still images as overlays to the video in VS9. It seems that the better the resolution, larger the size of the jpeg still image, the poorer it looks in the video. I inserted a 300 dpi scan of an 8x10 greyscale graphic. I added color in Adobe photoshop and saved it as a 3 mb jpeg. After inserting it into VS9, it looks very messy, jaggy, alsmost illegtible. On the otherhand, I doctored a 1 mb digital camera pcture in Photoshop and added it as an overlay. It is 167 kb and looks great, high resolution. What gives? Is there a recomeended size/resolution for jpegs that optimizes appearance in VS? Thanks!!!

Set project preferences Resampling Quality to "Best" and "Keep Aspect Ratio" before placing images in timeline. Then, drop the still images in the main timeline track between video clips in full resolution. Some user prescale their images but I get better quality by letting Video Studio do it - as long as the aspect ratio of your images match the aspect ratio of the video. Most digital cameras are "4:3", which works very well with 4:3 video.

BTW, your scan of an 8x10 (1.25) is not 4:3. My 3MP Sony, 2048x1536 (1.3333), works fine.
