MF4 updates/fixes

Post by eswrite »

Last time I was here, it was a year ago. At the time, I was struggling with audio-sync problems introduced when converting video to DVD format in MF4. More recently--this weekend--MF4 hung for 1 hour while processing the menu videos and finally crashed my computer such that I had to go into Recovery Console to get it back on its feet. So, before I go looking for a different DVD authoring package, anyone know of MF4 updates that address these issues? And no, MF5 is not in the cards. I already sank $$$ upgrading from MF3 to MF4 to get beta-ware.

Both of these problems can be caused by corrupted video files.* Are you working with MPEGs? Or, something worse like DivX or Xvid?

Here's a link to the update page. A couple of the fixes relate to "crashing", so it wouldn't hurt to try.
And no, MF5 is not in the cards.
MF5 may be improved, but I don't think the difficulties handling corrupt files or highly compressed formats have been completely solved.

* Sometimes a corrupt file will play back fine, so it can be very hard to tell if the file is bad. (All of my bad MPEGs played fine. It was only when I had versions of the same file, that I figured out one was causing problems and the other was not.)
