Need Help creating a transparent object - NOT Background

Post by Arlexda »

Hello,

I am relatively new to PI and need a little (maybe a lot) of help. I have V. 7 & 10. I do all of my creating in V. 7. Still learning the ends and outs of V.10.

:( I have a picture of one of my Persian cats that I would like to make transparent - just him not the background.

I have checked through all of the topics on the Forum, but have been unable to locate anything that relates to what I need to do - I only found how to make a transparent background. I can do that part.

I have searched the Web in all of the Tuts for PI and can't find anything that would work or that was suitable for what I have been trying to do.

I have a great photo of him on the washing machine that I want to use. I separated him from the washing machine and saved his image ONLY to my "My Cat's" in the EasyPalette. No problem there. I can put him ONLY anywhere I want.

 Okay - now on to the problem. What I have been trying to do is to make his image transparent - NOT the background. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do this.

I want to make him transparent (just a little bit) for a banner that I am creating for my website.

I would be forever greatful if someone could help me figure this out. Just remember, I am relatively new and I would appreciate it if the instructions could be in "detail".

Thank you so much for your time and trouble. Oh - before I forget - I LOVE PHOTOIMPACT.

Hi Arlexda, welcome to the forum. Love it or hate it, you are still welcome.

You can create a mask (grey scale) to give you the right level of transparency. There are tutorials available on how to create a mask, store it in the EasyPalette and apply it to your image http://www.pircnet.com/ here. You will have to adapt the relevant mask design to the level of transparency you want. The mask has to be grey scale to work. Black is completely opaque, white fully transparent and any grey level in between transparent in relation to the level of grey.

I'm at work right now and can't be more specific.

Arlexda the quick method,

Select the object you want to make transparent. Right-click the object and from the Dropdown Menu select item named Convert to Object.
On the Layers Manager select the tab named Layers. A new pane was added to the top of the Stacking order named Obj. Just to the right and above the new addition is a small entry box with the number 0. If you run the cursor over the number, you will get the Tool Tip that indicates this is Transparency. Change the number to a higher value to decrease Opacity and increase transparency.
You may have to move the object to see the transparent effect.

Thanks keenart, I knew there was a simpler way. Never used it though.
