Failed to Burn message on MF5..HELP

Post by DR_NICK »

I am trying to make a DVD of avi clips that I have for my business. The clips are high quality and are all in good working order. When I create the DVD it starts rendering process and then it tries to burn the DVD. The DVD spins for a while then I get a failed to burn message. My system is a ASUS board with an AMD FX60 with 4Gb of RAM and a very fast ATI card with 512 of RAM on it. The OS is XP Pro and all is upadted with current drivers. I need to get this thing running...any ideas?

What are the file properties of your avi clips? Are you aware that these need to be converted (recoded) to mpeg2 before you can burn these to DVD? Does your PC have the right codec's installed to do the transcoding to mpeg2 from whatever file format you have?

Which version do you use?

Hello,

Thank you for your response. I read your message and did not realize that I had to convert the avi files to mpegs...soooo, I upgraded to visual studio and did the conversions. That part was fine. When I tried to make another DVD with the new files the program would go through all of the steps and when it starts the burn (disk spinning) it goes on for a bit then gives me the error. I know the drive is good because I use Pyro as my usual burn software with DVD's. Any ideas?

Your problem is probably just other software that is blocking your DVD drive. Similar problems have been posted very often due to some packet writing or other software active.

MF5 does MPEG2 encoding, you didn't really need another software. Heinz didn't say MF5 couldn't do it, he just mentioned that the AVIs will need to be MPEG before being burnt.
Besides, you said it was done encoding anyway and had the problem when starting to burn... So burning was the problem (not encoding).

You are a bit confused, right? Both are more Microsoft than Ulead.
I made some of the avi's using camtasia
If you don't like the bad quality after MF5 scales it to DVD resolution, I hope you'll search here before posting.

OK, thanks...so what would you suggest to get the drive to burn?

"Burn" to a folder instead of DVD, and use the other software to burn DVD-Video from folder.

Then disable (or remove) any other software that accesses the drive, maybe seen in the system tray. This includes the MF5 Quick Drop by the way, which also accesses the drive.

This has been mentioned several times.

It worked. Thank you. The resolution is an issue to some degree, but I will do a search before posting anything on that topic.

Does this mean you can now burn from MF, or that you're avoiding this problem by burning from folder with other software already present?

(It could be important for others to know, in case it was Quick Drop again, or a conflict with Pyro)

I'm using other software to burn the disk from the folder I make through MF5. It worked nicely and I simply don't have the time to find the source of this problem. Thank you for your help.
