.MKV isn't recognized

Hi-
I can't get Ulead to recognize .mkv codecs;I swear it did before. I really need this.

Actually, MKV is not a codec. It is Matroska Video, an open source Video Container, similar to and a open source alternative to avi, mov etc (while MKA is Matroska Audio). It allows selectable audio and subtitle streams.

But you would not know which codec is being used from the file extension.

Thanks for correcting termonalogy; but the question remains, what will get ulead to see and open these files? Something worked before. It was in free-codecs, but isn't there now. Weird,baffling,and frusrating! Most of my files are .mkv!
Using the hackneyed, nauseating word,(help!.)

Ulead products never support MKV, I do not know why you have the feeling Ulead had supported it before.

MKV is much like AVI/MOV as a media container format, however it's not as popular as AVI/MOV/MP4/WMV in the Windows/Mac world. For anyone who wnats to know MKV, check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MKV
