MedaiStudio ac3 audio problem

Post by apwood »

I have used VideoRedo to cut a clip from a VOB file recorded at HQ mode (1 hour) on my Sony GX300 home video recorder. This records Dolby Digital 2.0 ac3 sound. Saved the clip as mpeg.

Edited the clip in MediaStudio (Video Editor 7) to add a transition effect between one scene and another, then saved with the same settings as the original video using SmartRender (so it only rendered the actual transition sequence).

When playing the resulting mpeg file in WMP there is a slight click or jump in the audio and the audio gets louder during the transition and then goes back to normal.

When playing this in Video Redo (VRD) at the beginning of the transition I get a a52decode error. VRD Quickstream fix shows there are 3 audio errors, but doesn't seem to fix the audio.

I edited the mpeg in MediaStudio as a single MPEG file (containing two scenes), rather than splitting it into two files (one for each scene).

Any idea what causes this, or how to stop it happening?

There is an option in VideoRedo to make it more compatible with "Ulead MoveFactory" - I could perhaps try that and recreate the mpeg clip.

Would it be better to split the scenes into two mpeg files and join them with the transition instead of working in the middle of one mpeg file.

If I tried again, might it just work a 2nd time?

I will probably end up using VideoStudio, but am testing the trial version of MediStudio because I'd have to pay for the AC3 plugin to trial VideoStudio, and don't want to pay for something before I'm sure it will do what I need it to (I'm gessing the transition / mpeg2 and ac3 rendering engines are more or less the same for MediaStudio and VideoStudio).

Or does anyone know how I can prove or disprove the AC3 sound will work in VideoStudio without paying for the AC3 add-on?

First of all, would someone please ban praebo1557 ? These constant nonsensical replies aimed at upping his web traffic are getting on our nerves.

Now for the question; Since Uleads producrts use common libraries for most of their MPEG functions I'd certainly use the MovieFactory compatability setting if there is one.

On the other hand note that MSPro7's Video Capture tool can import those VOB's itself as long as you have a DVD reader in your computer that can handle the Sony's discs and they are not protected (unlikely).

A recent post with the procedure is here;

and it can handle discs in either the conventional DVD (Video_TS folder) or DVD-VR (DVD_RTAV) layouts.
