CREATING ISO FILES

Post by DPATTERSON23 »

I HAVE CREATED AN ISO FILE WITH VIDEO STUDIO 8.
I CANNOT FIND WHERE I DID IT. CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS?
I WANT TO BE ABLE TO CREATE AN IMAGE FILE (ISO) FROM A
PREVIOUS DVD FILE (VIDEO TS) .
IS THIS POSSIBLE?
ALSO WHERE IS A GOOD TUTORIAL FOR VIDEO SUITE 8?
I DO NOT HAVE A MANUAL AS THIS PROGRAM WAS PART OF THE
SOFTWARE THAT CAME WITH THE PLEXTOR PX-TV100U I PURCHASED.
I AM TRYING TO CONVERT VHS TAPES TO DVD. i HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT
THE EASIST WAY IS TO CONVERT TO A ISO FILE AND USE DVD SHRINK
AND THEN BURN ISO FILE TO DVD. I KNOW VIDEO STUDIO WILL MAKE A IMAGE FILE AND THEN I CAN USE DVD SHRINK TO COMPACT THE FILE.
ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED. i AM USING CAPITALS BECAUSE MY EYES
CANNOT READ THE SMALL PRINT. :D
THANKS

LARGE TYPE SOLUTION: USE FIREFOX AND HIT CTRL + TO ENLARGE THE TEXT. THEN WE DON'T HAVE TO YELL :)

The full version of VideoStudio supports DVD importation, but not so the VE version. Sorry. That said, if the disc is not commercial you could try copying the *.vob to the hard drive & renaming it with an *.mpg extension.

To find the missing *.iso create a fake project & go as fat as setting its export folder. The dialog should let you backtrack if you haven't changed folders since.

Hi Dave

From share create disc.

Navigate to the last page, You have the option to Burn Disc, Create an Image or Create a DVD folder.

The default save location of each should indicate where you saved the Iso file.

If not do a search of your hard drive for *.iso.

Ok

"go as fat as setting its export folder." This should read "go as far as setting its export folder."

And is indicating how to navigate to the last burner page.

Thanks Trevor for the explanation.
Does my version of VideoStudio 8.0 SE DVD
have all the functions of VS8?
I know where the previous .iso file is.
I cannot remember how to create an .iso file in VS8. And I am not sure if you create an .iso file from a dvd format i.e. video ts file. I was playing around with video clips and could select the 39 scenes that are part of this movie, but it tells me the sound is not correct for this program and please convert. Not sure how to do this either. I am really very very new at this and need a tutorial on the program. A few days ago I was on a web site that had a whole bunch of tutorials.....but again....I cannot remember where.....
Its hell to get old...
Thanks again Trevor for all your help. I love forums they have so much info.

There's no need to make an ISO file. Capture to an MPEG-2 file, and Video Studio can re-structure it for the DVD. If the program won't fit on a DVD, choose a template with a lower bitrate. (It's actually best to capture to the "correct" bitrate in the first place to avoid re-encoding the MPEG.)

An ISO file is normally used when you are making multiple copies, or when you need to send a master file to a DVD duplication company.
Does my version of VideoStudio 8.0 SE DVD have all the functions of VS8?
I don't know what the differences are, but normally the SE version is limited. I think the only reason that make SE versions is to sell you an upgrade to the full version.
I DO NOT HAVE A MANUAL AS THIS PROGRAM...
You can download the VS8 manual. It's for the full version, so some things may be missing in your SE version. But, 95% of it should be the same.
I cannot remember how to create an .iso file in VS8.
I seem to remember VS8 it can't do that! But, I could be wrong. Do you have Ulead Movie Factory? Movie Factory can do it.
And I am not sure if you create an .iso file from a dvd format i.e. video ts file.
As far as I know, none of the Ulead programs can do that. But there might be 3rd-party programs that can.

Normally, I'd say the audio is probably Dolby (AC3). (VS8 requires an extra-cost plug-in for Dolby.) But, if you created the file with VS8, that's not the issue.. weird... Unless the Plextor device can has a Dolby encoder, which it might.

Moreover, Shrink works perfectly well with the Video_TS folder you say you already have. In Shrink, instead of using the button 'Open Disc' you use the 'Open Files' command, and point the program to where the Video_TS folder is stored on your computer.

And you can download a free Dolby AC-3 filter here http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=AC3_Filter But you need to know that it will only allow you to import AC-3 audio, but not re-export it. You have to use either LPCM or mpeg audio. But that filter used to work well when I used VS8, although I had the full version of the program at the time...

Thanks to DVDDoug and Ken Barry for the info.
Will try your suggestions.
I have converted one file. It was a 6.6 GB mpg file.
Changed it to a .iso file and used DVDshrink to get it to a 4.3 GB file.Everything was fine except the left and right margins of the film. It had squigglely lines.
Is there a way to make that file a little smaller to eliminate the left and right margin?
Thanks again.
