Mono Audio - MPEG file from DVD XPRESS

Post by wywso0 »

I am using DVD XPRESS to import video from an older, mono video recorder. My process is to record a MPG file into the My Videos folder using the DVD XPRESS capture wizard, and then to open that MPG file in VS10+ and then drag it onto the timeline etc to be able to edit it.

This seems to work OK, except that I have got no sound on one channel. Can I "tell" VS10+ that this is a mono soundtrack and hence duplicate the single audio track. Or, should I use an adaptor to split the signal from the single sound channel so that I get the same sound on both audio channels.

Thanks.

I would use a Y-Adapter to feed your single source audio-out to both audio-in ports on the DVD Express unit.

Not sure if this is the intended use, but you could try it:
Duplicating an audio channel
Audio files sometimes separate the vocal sound from the background audio and put them in different channels. Duplicating an audio channel allows you to mute the other channel. For example, the voice is on the left audio channel and the background music on the right. When you duplicate the right channel, it will mute the vocal part of the song leaving the background music to play. To duplicate an audio channel, select Duplicate audio channel in the Attribute tab in the Options Panel then select which audio channel to duplicate.

I used the method that Black Lab suggested when I had some mono audio. Had I realized it was mono at the start, I would have use a Y cable. I had already transferred and done some editing to it, so I just duplicated the channel. It worked fine.
