Music track won't play in storyboard or timeline view. Help

Post by acj16141 »

VS 10 user

I'm going crazy. I can't figure out why my music tracks won't play anywhere but in audio view. I get nothing in storyboard or timeline view. It's always work until now for some odd reason. Please give me some advice.

Thanks

What format is the music track? If it is mp3, then you need to be aware that some mp3 codecs don't work properly with VS. In these cases, we advise people to convert their audio files to .wav format, and that usually seems to work.

The tracks play in the audio view thought, so I would assume that they are okay.

Most of the complaints in the past were associated with sound not appearing when the project was rendered into a final DVD-compatible mpeg-2 file, which tends to suggest that they worked up till that stage... EDIT: This further suggests that the problem arose when trying to convert those particular mp3 files into the audio format used on a DVD (LPCM, mpeg or AC-3). Before that stage, they remain mp3 and thus can still play in their native format.

Can you at least experiment by changing one or more of your music files to wav and seeing what happens then...?

Upon further investigation, it is all audio not just music tracks. I'm not even getting native audio in the storyboard or timeline view, but I can hear it fine in the audio view. Any ideas?

Can you please complete your system information in your profile page? This will give us an idea of possible hardware related issues, in your case the sound card.

You have the lastest Direct-X installed, and the most current drivers, and updates for your sound card?

Since you are having problems with hearing any audio except in the audio view, what are your video and project properties? Right click on a video clip in the timeline and post the properties please?

Have you tried playing a clip in say Windows Media Player, and does the sound play alright there? WMP should be able to play AVI, DV, MPEG's so unless you are using some format like Xvid, you should be able to play a clip in WMP. Also if you have the DivX codec installed WMP will play AVI/DivX files.

You should be more specific in you directions(what would you like me to do after I right click to check the properties???), and I don't think you are understanding my problem. I can hear the audio, it is there. I would just like to hear it in the storyboard in timeline view. I am using MPEG, and what is Direct-X? I just purchased my Dell Pentium 4 last year.

Hi

Your original post suggested to me that it may be an mp3 issue. (Re:- Kens reply to you)
Some users have had playback difficulties when using this format.
It is unclear why, but a problem could exist.

(There are two ways of playing the audio clip—Clip Mode and Project Mode
The Mode is indicated by the words being highlighted adjacent to the start/play button.)

OK

If you right click on one of the clips that are giving problems
Select Properties from the list.
The ‘properties window’ shows the details of the clip.
The lower panel showing the audio settings.

Please post the details of the Audio Panel.

If the audio indicates Mp3, then you should try to use a different format such as Wav.

As the problem may be PC related you are advised to update your forum profile to include your PC details. This will help understanding your system.

Details of your location can also be useful when advising you of property settings. If you do not want to divulge your location (are you Pal or Ntsc)

Hope this Helps
