I think i am doing this right

After turning on my camcorder and hooking it up to the pc i know i am supposed to click on the capture button. But it takes forever to get my video off my camcorder tape. Then i play it back on pc I have a blue screen what am I doing wrong! Probably everything!! I need help I am new to all this1

What kind of cam is it digital or analog? and can you see the picture in the preview window.

BTW the fastest you can get it to your hardrive is real time, in other words as long as the tape is unless your capturing in mpeg which will take longer depending on your cpu.
