want to edit to WMV-HD format

Post by toni1 »

want to edit to WMV-HD format : What soft can do the job VS10 (see below) or Mediastudio8 or MF5

have a sony HC1 camcorder and full VS10 plus i just purchased.
I followed the suggestions given by JcHunter and had very nice redered outcome of my trip this summer in HD (MPEG2-HD) that plays very well with WVideo player10.
I then tried to make outcome of the edited file to WMV-HD same full size for burning and sharing :the WMV-HD option existe in SHARING but the only outcome is in WMV (non HD) highly compressed low quality small window;
IN DETAIL THATS WHAT I DID
1- I recharged the same project on the timeline
2- I clic SHARE then CREATE VIDEO FILE and select available WMV-HD PAL(1440 x 1080 25 fps).
3- The Create Video File window opens
-under type I read: wmv (this is the only non hd option here)
- The file name is still WMV-HD PAL(1440 x 1080 25 fps).
-In properties I read:
Windows Media Video
24 bits, 1440 x 1080, 16:9, 25 fps
Frame-based
44.100 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo
Ulead - WMV HD 1080 25p
5- I clic OPTION to set the WMV to HD format but the opened Properties window had only one folder the Ulead Videostudio folder (with no g&n&ral or Compression folder)

What is the step by step procedure in order to make WMV-HD file. maybe the codec to do this job is not there ?; or is there something else to to do like with the DivX codec explained by JcHanter or else.
NB I THNK VIDEOSTUDIO IS A IDEAL PRODUCT FOR ITS PRICE RANGE (FAST RESULT IN SMART RENDERING AND THE PROXY ABILITIES FOR SLOWER SYSTEMS)
Thanks for your help

Toni,
Try the following:

Open HD Project
Select SHARE/Create Video File
Select Custom
Save as Type: Select “Windows Media Video” in the dropdown control
Press “Options” button
Select "Profile" Tab
Select Ulead – "WMV HD 1080 30p" (25p for PAL)

This sets the following properties:

Audio encoding mode: Quality VBR
Video encoding mode: Quality VBR

Audience: Quality-based
Audio codec: Windows Media Audio 9.1
Audio format: VBR Quality 98, 44 kHz, stereo VBR
Video codec: Windows Media Video 9
Video size: 1440 x 1080
Frame rate: 29.97 fps (25 for you)
Key frame: 6 s
Video quality: 95

You can do additional customization by pressing the Customize button but all I was able to do was to select another template – no detailed tweaking was possible…

Close the window, name the file, and hit the save button.

I transcoded a 1 minute Mpeg2 HDV project to WMV HD in about 20 minutes. Size 197 MB.

This played poorly in Windows Media Player version 10 – the video was clearly HD and in the correct aspect ratio but stalled and stammered, while the audio continued with good quality.

When I played back the file in Media Player Classic, the aspect ratio was incorrect but the video played smoothly. The audio track stuttered a bit.
Edit:
Finally, when I played the WMV HD file back through my IOData AVLP2, the aspect ratio was wrong and both the video and audio repeatedly stalled.

All in all, a lame performance by Microsoft. I think the WMV HD codec needs lots of work. The WMP (Player)(version 10) needs a lot more work - clearly not ready to deal with high definition playback. Version 11 is available but only as a Beta. The download summary says nothing about high definition support.

My recommendation is to stick with Divx HD or Xvid HD, or Mpeg2 HDV, all of which have worked reliably for me.

Thanks john, I'll try those solutions to see for myself what is possible;
I heard Xvid is giving the best result ?
What is the best reader to advice for sharing my videos in vidx and Xvid

The best high def player right now seems to be Media Player Classic. download from http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Med ... lassic.htm

Well after some systematic researche on instaled codecs, found out that the right codecs for WMV-HD are just not there upon VS10 plus installation.
- First i tried to install these codecs from Microsoft (WMV9) without any success.

- I then found out in the MedaStudio Ulead forum that MediaStudio8 comes with the right codecs
that loads when installing ( 6 quality options 3 in full resolution and 3 in 720).

I could not guess this limitation of VS10 plus when I bought it. I thought it was normal to have it since the VS10 plus version is "HD compatible".

Hope ULEAD will do something about that (add those right WMV-HD codec for VS10 plus users )
