Auto slicing whilst scanning

Post by GordonMac »

I have a visioneer scanner and am running windows XP professional on a pentium 4 3Ghz processor (all updated and protected by virus scanner and firewall software). I am trying to scan the family photos into the pc. They are of different sizes and so I am using the auto slicing function. Most of the time it works really well but then it does really silly things like select only part of a photo or combine all the photos into one photo. I have tried to vary the number of photos, the spacing between the photos and the distance from the edge of the scanning platter but to no avail.
Can anybody suggest something to help please?

Don't rely on the scanner doing things automatically.
Either scan one picture at a time or preview the contents of the flatbed.
Then you drag out various scan areas with your mouse. When you then scan it scans each dragged out area one after the other.

The other alternative is to scan the entire content of the flatbed as one picture and then using your imaging software 'cut it all up' into separate pictures. Having said that - you will most likely find it is the more laborious method of the 3 available.

Thanks for the reply and that is exactly what I have resorted to doing. However when I am offered a facility to make things easier it would be nice for it to work! It just seems like a brilliant idea that it is a shame it does not work as efficiently as it should all the time.

And why do you complain about it here? It's the scans from your scanner (scanner driver) that cause the problem, was that made by Ulead too?
