Audio Sync out, DV-AVI

Post by DNSUK »

I have been reading the audio sync problems that have occured but they relate to the user having edited the mpeg file. I have serious lip sync problems but with unedited DV-AVI, 1 single file, aprox 1hr:50Mins long

I'm a newbie to DVD WS2.
Another question is, how do i burn to dual layer DVDs?
I can't see anything in the DVD burn options to select DVD9 ?
I have upgraded to 2.23xxx

There's got to be a problem with the AVI file (some kind of corruption). I assume that it plays OK before conversion to MPEG-2... It's really hard to get a multiplexed A/V file (any format) out of sync before it's re-multiplexed.

Assuming the AVI plays OK, but has "sneaky corruption", here are a couple of things you can try:

- Use a different program to convert the file to MPEG-2 before importing it to Workshop. You can try SUPER (Free!!!) or search the net for an "AVI to MPEG" program.

- As a last resort, you can make an analog copy if you have an analog capture device.

I can't answer the dual-layer question. I just got a dual-layer burner, and I haven't used it yet. I have made "DVD folders" that are too big for a single-layer DVD (before using DVD Shrink) and Workshop didn't even blink.

Hi,
I use Avid Liquid for editing (7.1), yes it plays ok in the preview,
Maybe it's just me or the DVD player i'm using..(Panasonic)
I read somewhere to check "disk template", but not sure where that is, have looked thru all the settings etc

PS, just tried burning a DVD9 from Liquid..***! blocky and audio crackles, although in sync :) , the reason why i bought DVDWS2

Update..
I've burnt another copy and it plays fine in 3 DVD players, and audio sync is out only on the Panasonic...
So i guess it's not the DVD...

As DV tapes are normally 1 hour, how do you obtain an "unedited" file of 1 h 50 min?

Is your avi Type 1 or 2? If Type 1, then the audio is interleaved into the video and offset synch is generally not possible. Always capture and work in Type 1.

Do you have a dual layer capable burner? Not all DVD burners can do this you know?

Close to 2 hours of AVI file in one capture???? Surely not DV-AVI. Even at LP settings you will not get much more than 90 minutes on one miniDV tape. How did you obtain this file?

Maybe a vhs tape that has been taken through an analogue to digital converter, connected by firewire, this could give a file this long.
How about an 80 minute tape recorded in LP, that could also do it.

Hi
Ok, My DVAVI is a fused sequence of 2 tapes, sorry should of explained earlier.(done in Liquid 7), not sure how to tell whether it is type 1 or 2.
Yes my burner is dual layer, but the result from that was pretty disasterous, sparkles and crackly audio! (done in Liquid 7) not tried in DVDWS2 yet.
Have since heard back from my client and they say that their Panasonic DVD player is very old and they are going to buy a new one! hopefully this'll be the end of that!
cheers for all your help!
