Brand new to this, and have a few questions

Post by ugpell »

Hello Everyone:

I just recently discovered the wonderful world of video editing using MS Movie maker; I quickly realized that I wanted to do more, and after much researching I think I am going to go with ULEAD. I hope I am making the right decision.. any insight on this would be great.

My main question is I want to know I can apply the same transition (cross fade for example) to all of my pictures in my timeline. Is this possible?

Also, is it possible to create or edit the templates ULEAD has for the "movie wizard" feature? I like the ability to quickly add pan/zoom and transions to a bunch of images in one "swoop"

Looking forward to your replies.

Hello, Nathan, and welcome to the Forum.

Your transition question is easy: File > Preferences > General > Default Transition, and select the one you want.

Can't help you on the wizard question as I have never ever used the wizard, and I have been using VS since VS7. I exclusively use the main editor, and I suspect that you too, when you get more confidence with the program, will see that the Editor gives you much more by way of choice and sophistication than the wizard way.

On that point, I think Video Studio is a great program with some quite sophisticated features, particularly for the money. And it is more intuitive than a number of other equivalent products. But you have to bear in mind a couple of things. Regardless of how intuitive the program might seem, video editing is an inherently complicated process. What might seem intuitive for some, produce disasters for others. In this regard, read the top sticky post on Recommended Procedures, which should point you in the right direction. Plus some excellent tutorials compiled by one of our users, which you can find in the Tutorial section of this Board.

You also need to remember that just about every computer out there is a literally unique blend of hardware and software. It is almost inevitable, therefore, on some of them that particular programs might baulk at certain hardware configurations or might clash with bits of other software. In other words, not all software is infallible, and errors will arise. They certainly do with VS10, but they certainly do also with every other video editing program I have ever used, some worse than others in this regard.

But then again, that is the purpose of a Board like this: to try to help out if people do run headlong into a problem they can't solve themselves.

Thank you so much for the help!!

I would much rather not use the wizard either, but I could not figure out a way to apply transitions to a whole bunch of "pictures" without adding each one of them one at a time. I am currently working with 700 photos and, well... that would take a really long time.

Thanks again!
