Pixelated Video on DVD

Post by jedi-bob »

Hi... I recently purchased a new burner (Sony DRU-820A) and have had some great experiences with it. Recenly, however... I burned a DVD and maybe 3/4 througn it the picture got a bit pixelated. The sound stayed perfect and if the camera doesn't move, it's not that noticable, but the pixels are annoying and shouldn't be there. The next DVD I burned, the whole thing was like that.

I am confused and would appreciate any help. My specs are listed below.

Thanks! :D

DVD's are Verbatim DVD-R

I think it was 16X speed.

Nothing wrong with Verbatim discs. But the burn speed is probably way too high. We normally recommend that you burn at around 4x, regardless of the rated speed of your burner and the discs. Or at least a much lower speed than the rated speed. This gives the burning laser more opportunity to embed its signal more firmaly into the disc, and thus diminish the possibility of errors such as yours creeping in. And don't obsess about the extra time it takes to burn at a slow speed. Even at 4x, a single layer DVD takes only a little less than 15 minutes to burn. And after all, you have just spent hours editing and preparing your project. What's a few minutes more?

Hi Guys...thanks for the advice.

Last night I burned the disk as a folder and used Nero to burn the actual disk (at 4X). The same thing happened. I get the smooth audio and the picture is slightly pixelated.

Should I try at 2X?

The strange thing to me is that it burned so much of a disk with NO problem and them the last 15 minutes it just snapped and has been doing it since.

Hi

Trying a lower burn rate probably won’t make any difference.
I think we need to look at your workflow and video properties.

How did you capture your video :?: What were the original properties of the captured video :?:

Did you create a video file prior to Share Create Disc :?: What settings did you use to Share Create Video File :?:

I just checked the source footage that I uploaded into UV9 via firewire from 8MM (not hi-8) cassette from my camera and viewing through windows shows that the footage is pixelated.
But keep in mind that one of my dvd's has perfect footage and then WHAM! the footage pixels.

If it was my seetings why would the first half of the dvd have no problem?

Man...this is frustrating.

Hi

When you capture you have many templates to choose from.
DV-DVD-Mpeg-Wmv etc
If you chose DV then the quality would be as the camera footage and be saved as DV-AVI.

Any other choice and the program has to re-code the data.
All other options may requires the user to customise the properties.

As an example if you chose mpeg you may have properties not dvd compliant.

So what were the capture properties :?:

They may be ok but without knowing what they are we cannot comment.
And as you indicate that the source footage is pixelated we can only go back to the start.
